Pres was made when tanks were built like brick houses and has like no tank healing to speak of. This is kind of fine in premade high end key comps where the meta tanks (except Prot pal, rip) are mostly self sufficient and can get by with just asking for a Time Dilation over comms (not that they’ll be able to see that next patch anyway for some reason).
But there’s a key range from like 2-16 where you’re probably not in comms, won’t be able to see people’s CDs, and have basically no way of supporting your tank. The healing from Reversion etc over time is not really enough to keep a tank up.
Maybe a choice node with Time Dilation where you have some sort of beacon/funnel effect to help prop the tanks up passively. Or a choice node with Grace Period where if you only have Reversion on one target its healing is increased by 200% or something (reduced in pvp). Then in high key groups where you are with a self sufficient tank, you ofc just take the external but in low keys you can take something mindless to help the every day tank.
Having a monk and disc priest in the 11-13 key range, a druid in the 6-9 range and this pres evoker, I would say that I agree with you that pres is missing something.
On the other healers. I can bring a steady stream of healing to maintain groups, and focus big healing when needed.
On this pres evoker, I am constantly having yo prep echos and TAs everywhere just to do basic healing, and that healing leaves very large gaps in healing. The fact that our heals can miss because of their range and directionality, and the slowness of our SB and FB make it a very difficult spec to enjoy in group content.
The only place that it really shines is in raid healing, where it is exactly the opposite. Aside from shaman, it takes the least amount of effort to AE heal a raid.
Would be ideal if they could balance the two so that pres was a little worse healing raid content while being much much better in groups.
Golden Hour is the tank heal.
Unfortantely if the tank is repeatedly going down to critical health you quickly run out of options
Yeah you can keep echoing things onto tanks, but a bad tank is particularly hard on Preservation compared to other healers it seems.

Not the healers fault at that point, tank skill issue.
