Anduins never been amazing or shown god like power constantly. But its completely unbelievable he would have such a lack of defenses. Or that sw wouldn’t be on high alert and rdy for an attack.
It wasn’t some brilliant tactic by sylvie. It was just piss poor story.
As a king with no hiers and sylvie still at large he doesn’t get that luxery. It makes no sense.
Just to go out for a drink he has to disguise himself and sneak out.
These guys come up with pretty dumb ideas for the story from their dojo room
Till sylvies sylvies head is on a pike all cities should be on lockdown and all leaders have a full military force guarding them 24/7. Anduin is in no position to have a single luxery of private time.
Mage barriers, shield guards, snipers, the lightforged mechs, a teleportation portal to the vindicar, the ally helacarriers, with gnome choppers and griffan riders, cloaked rogues, multiple body decoys, etc. It all should been deployed ahead of time guarding anduin.
Hell lock him in a tower with all those defenses with a bunch of noble girls and don’t let him leave till he has hiers.
Those two mawsworn could have easily wiped out stormwind.
“What the heck, DM! What about my saving throw?”
“No saving throw, you’re captured and sent to SuperMegaHellJail.”
“Then why have us roll initiative at all?”
“For-… tension. Look, I’m the DM, I don’t have to explain yourself, you’re captured!”
“By your weird undead fetish GMPC again?”
“IT’S NOT WEIRD AND DON’T TALK ABOUT HER THAT WAY.”
“Ugh. Why didn’t we play the weeb game with the catgirls instead…”
Danuser? Is that you?
This will never happen with their Saturday morning cartoon levels of writing in order to bring in a new generation of players. People seem confused about the new direction the story is going, but it’s all PR and business, they know they lost the older wow generation and need to go all out disney at this point.
It was 8 seconds. The Mawsworn appeared out of the clouds, and 8 seconds later Anduin was in the air being dragged away. You can look at the time stamp on the video. The first appearance is at 1:38, and he’s off the ground and in the air at 1:46.
It would take longer than that for a guard to get to him from the distances they’d have to have been.
He assumes this is a fight, he readies his weapon. They appeared at 1:38, he readies his sword in 4 seconds, brandishing it at 1:42. Two seconds later he’s off the ground at 1:46.
That’s just not how it works. It’s just not. You can look at any royal in the world, for the most part. When you’re on your own turf, in your own capital city, you have guards but they’re not lockstep with you.
For good or ill Stormwind should be considered to be a highly populated Buckingham Palace. If the Queen went out to the gardens there’d be a ton of oversight, for sure, but something that swooped down and tried to snatch her, getting it’s hands on her within 4 seconds from it’s first visual contact, is probably going to succeed assuming no one managed to shoot it.
Given that modern guns aren’t really a thing, and Stormwind troops don’t seem to be trained in them, you’re relying on someone who has a gun to be aware enough to do so. That means someone had to be close enough to know that Anduin was there (so visual line of sight) and have a ready anti-air weapon.
So… I mean sure we could debate whether or not they have reason to generally have anti-air response but 4 seconds is, generally, not going to be enough time for most people to react unless they’re already holding the gun and aiming.
He was at a funeral; he was distracted.
Lol no they are trash mobs in sl.
Varian already had a funeral. Anduin be in a better defended position.
Sylvie is at large and being persued. None of the leaders should be just walking around without an army at thier backs.
The defenses should have already heen there and ready to go.
Like sylvie can kidnap/kill folks but do it in a way thats believable.
Grab anduin at night in his sleep. Attack the alliance forcing their armies to multiple fronts thus leaving sw vulnerable. Let the mindless scourge go nuts and use them as a distraction.
Etc etc etc. Not tell you goons to kidnap faction leaders well their out for coffee.
No they are all powerful. They are mawsworn.
Lol theyll be trash mobs in sl the entire time.
Honestly, my only issue with it was that Anduin went for the sword instead of using his magic. We all saw that mass rez he did; we know he’s powerful in the light. I’d have been more impressed if, instead of impotently reaching for a weapon, he’d busted out Power Word: Shield and Penance, and still got yeeted.
Yeah, like that. Something that indicates they remember their own lore, but that would have taken time, money, and effort.
It’s like the way they skipped Sylvanas fighting Bolvar’s minions in the SL cinematic. So much of what we get these days feels like a summary of what should be epic storytelling, instead of the story itself.
I think people forget that the modern concept of secret service like security following leaders around 24/7 is, well, way more modern than WoW pretends to be.
I think it’s Anduin decision like what happend in BFA prequel in the “battle of lorderon” Anduin did have any spaceships to nuke undercity but he had them in waiting and had no intentions of using them…
Thus, he wanted to get snatched from the air because of blizzard horrible direction and marysue writing plot.
You forget that WoW is a medieval world. People just didn’t behave that way back in the day. A king in his own contiguous fortress is going to have some free space. You’re expecting a very modern style sense of defenses in a world that clearly doesn’t operate that way.
Not to mention that on Azeroth all the racial leaders tend to be very well established powerful heroes in their own rights. Many of them freely walk alone because, as a general rule, they can handle themselves. It’s just a core tenet of being who they are.
Many of the leaders appear to have been having personal moments. No matter what kind of security the humans may be implementing there’s a certain reverence for the dead. Anduin would almost certainly have demanded to be left alone to pray to his father. He was literally at his memorial. Tyrande appeared to have simply stepped out of the forest to observe the sky. Thrall was with his wife somewhere.
I don’t think it’s so much that they don’t have any defenses set up but that they were taken in moments of vulnerability; moments that will always happen because living people aren’t protected 24/7.
You think the secret service would be able to get to trump if winged angels blasted through the window and grabbed him? If he was off the ground in 6 seconds? They don’t stay in his room while he sleeps. They’re not in the same room when he’s going to the bathroom. He’s not always in their presence. So long as he’s in a designated safe space he has some wiggle room; and so long as you’re attacking from an angle they can’t stop you you’re going to succeed. From the sky, as an angel, is probably a good start.
