it was a mobile proc based dot spec that wasnt a caster/cloth wearer, how is that not special compared to what it is now? which is a bm hunter that throws bombs while being useless from range?

I’ve gotten KSM (without being carried 
) as survival in the past. Its a fun spec and if played properly brings plenty of utility.
(PS- Yes, I play with friends. I imagine trying to PUG m+15s as survival would be an adventure)

Dots are weak in anything that isn’t raiding right now. All I remember was that you healed for 20% hp when you killed an enemy, which was…bad. And MM is proc based now right?
ya that is true, its old state wouldnt mesh well with how pvp is atm, or keys. which is what i was mainly using it for back in mop (pvp)
No one played Old Surv as far as i know, the spec was pretty much dead. Now its fun and it honestly should be a tank spec some how.
Range Surv was one of the most played specs from Cata up to WoD patch 6.2.

And there is nothing special about 3 melee rogue specs or 3 caster mage specs or 3 caster warlock specs.
But yet rogues got to keep all 3 melee specs and nages /warlocks got to keep all 3 caster specs.
Rsurv was not like MM . MM is a hard hitting sniper . Rsurv was a dot spec that used enhanced munitions like explosive shot or poisons as well as traps to slow or cause damage to enemies.

This is just blatantly false. They had to kneecap the spec in WoD to get people to stop playing it in preparation for the Legion rework.

Exactly this . I played this toon as rsurv from the time I created it in Cata until they broke it in 6.2 .
If people honestly think people didn’t play rsurv then they must be referring to the time they broke rsurv in wod like they broke demonology .
They didn’t want people to play it so they could make their been broken since Legion meme spec.

Old Surv was my main spec, and I had to make a very uncomfortable move to MM since I didn’t want to be BM during Legion. Or any other time, really…

Its not prejudice. Just reality.
Marks is one of the best specs in the game, and melee is not amazing right now.
The issue is the group making feature lacking the ability to see specs honestly.
If I invited a hunter and he was a melee I would not be happy at all, but that is in no way your fault.
If I knew it beforehand, I could have just chosen not to invite.

Rsurv wouldn’t work in 2021. Their old skill set is terrible.
Yeah it would work a lot better then msurv in any year and people would actually take them .

Nah, people would only pick MM as they do now. Rsurv and BM hunters would continue to be ignored.
if Rsurv was still around it would still give mm a run for it’s money like it did in the past and to be honest this is the first patch since Legion launch where MM hasn’t been in the spot where msurv and BM are right now.

This is an inaccurate statement.
Wild Spirits from NF covenant is extremely powerful, and you tolerate a range with little group utility/survivability because the covenant ability is disgustingly strong.
You are not bringing a MM hunter, you are bringing a NF.

Old MM of that era =/= new MM of 2021. Current MM blows any current hunter spec into uselessness.
Nah, it was a great change idea-wise. Melee hunters(spear hunters) existed in human history, so why not in WoW? And vanilla/classic hunters could be melee too.
