Actually, it came out at a time when there was only a few lesser known MMO’s. The modern ones with 3d were small in scope and scale and were focusing more on PvP.
Warcraft and Blizzard had clout, so much so that people waited with bated breath for the release of WoW.
Not only Did it have brand recognition, it did its best to remove loading zones (everything was seamless in Azeroth), respect players time with rest state 9so you could catch up to your friends faster), a very forgivable death penalty (no EXP loss, EXP debt repayment, losing items/gear)
Yes, you could solo play, but this was not a focus of it but rather a suitable change from the common group or die mentality of all the MMO’s in the early 2000’s.
Basically put, WoW did the opposite of the industry standard at the time and it hit a home run. So the solo leveling experience was not only what put it on the map, there were a plethora of contributing factors.
Hello, I see you replied to my post. The issue was the fact that you constantly keep whining over people whining about the game and you not playing it makes you look rather ignorant over the issues being whined about, haha! It’s a fallacy yes but one you are using incorrectly because you don’t understand how to use it properly! Also, I never insulted you, I only pointed out a fact based on the information being displayed for everyone to see, haha!
Neigh, LFD/LFR SAVED wow, not made it worse. CRZ is made for a reason…having 5000 dracthyr evokers in the starting area to server capacity is going to crash and burn the server. You would also have 0 FPS without CRZ.
Lots of good stuff in the video, but of course the perpetually aggrieved ‘players’, those who seem to maintain a sub merely for posting whinges, well, they will always cry foul regardless of what is going on.
Preach has the weirdest haters. He didn’t leave due to the corruption at Blizzard, he left because the game sucked with his chief complaint being the game doesn’t respect the players’ time. He even said he’d consider returning if the game changed, he’s doing exactly what he said he’d do.
Some of y’all just never watched the video y’all are complaining about lol
I think Preach’s intentions were probably good but he missed the point. Torghast for example, wasn’t awful (just) because it was “required” but because it was intentionally neutered. I remember Preach’s Shadowlands Beta videos where he and his friends had a ton of fun in torghast but iteration after iteration, the fun was sucked out of it. On top of the blatant nerfs to fun powers and combinations and the addition of timers, Torghast had no Q system. It should have just been a crazy fun romp with a Q system to make it interesting and it would have been a whole different story.
I am disappointed to not have seen any addressing of Blizzards tendency to take things that could genuinely have been good and fun, and intentionally make them drawn out , convoluted and tedious. There is a reason Blizzard has been derided as the fun police for years and I’m just sad this was never addressed.
Hello, I see you replied to my post. Clearly, I’m only level 10, haha! That doesn’t change the fact that you are whining about things you don’t understand in the slightest! Maybe in another month you might get another character leveled, haha!
Ignore player feedback and remove/prune/limit fun and player agency as much as humanly possible.
Essentially “Blizzard is always right” philosophy in contrast to “the customer is always right”. Blizzard’s vision is always more important than a player’s enjoyment of the game. Or even the over-all quality or interest in the game.
Another aspect of this includes not talking to the playerbase. Occasionally do lip service to act as if they’re listening but mostly ignore and talk AT us about what they’re doing rather than have open discussions or any transparency.
Ah torghast… a perfect example of something awesome in theory that was oblitered to death by blizzard… some folks may be against the very concept of going to the realm of death in wow cuz it takes some of the mystery away. While I consider that criticism valid that isn’t my problem with shadowlands. I think shadowlands was a very promising expansion but was gutted and twisted to make every system and bit of content that COULD be fun into torturous dreadful mess which made me quit after intense burnout.
Torghast could’ve been great, shadowlands could’ve been great. But in the beta fun was detected, and so fun was nerfed. I guess too much fun is bad for time spreadsheet metrics ion is addicted to. But unfortunately, the human condition cannot be fully understood through maths. And his attempts to mathematically increase players playing backfired… 2 expansions in a row. Him trying to force us to enjoy the game “just” enough that we play the most and pay the most has failed horribly.
While DF seems to be avoiding some of the obvious negative systems we’re already seeing the same ideology of “nerf anything fun or interesting or engaging” in late beta and early pre patch. Soar got nerfed to hell in the beta giving us… a fancy glide I guess which can’t be used in no flight areas and is barely faster than 310 mounts and thus is rarely practically useful. Then they nerfed dracthyr’s actual glides momentum so now it moves slowly.
And still they ignore ALL feedback given to them. So much feedback in beta and now gendis since the release has gone with no response explicit or implicit. Even the “balance” changes seem nonsensical buffing top damage dealers and nerfing bottom damage dealers for no reason.
People have complained about the class color for evokers: ignored.
People have given various feedback on dragon riding mechanics: ignored.
People have given feedback on evokers playstyle in particular devastation: ignored.
When was the last time they directly listened to feedback and responded? I guess indirectly they got rid of the mission table right? And “borrowed power” (Even though dragon riding is looking like an out of combat variant).
As much as I want dragonflight to be good… even if it is it’ll likely be a fluke because they are fundamentally flawed in how they are running their game. Almost every other MMO I’ve played has more dev engagement with players. FFXIV, ESO, Project Gorgon, GW2. Devs will communicate their intention and in some cases even change course when the playerbase is unhappy with something.
Torghast… could’ve been great… should’ve been great. As a multiplayer optional content that has scaled difficulty and rewards. (including gear). Instead… it just… sigh I Torghast’s failure is an example of everything bad about blizzard since WoD. Gutting something that could’ve been so good. Legion was more of a fluke than not. It still had flaws but had enough good to counteract all of that.
I know right, i cant believe he was angry at blizzard! imagine being angry at higher ups abusing staff members at a company you have been writing content and supporting for decades. What a silly man
