These extremely grindy Korean MMOs called Archlord and Rising Force Online (RFO)
Anarchy Online
A little game called Dark Age of Camelot. Wow took me over when I hopped on my brotherâs enhancement shaman for a minute. It was early vanilla in WSG, he had an Arcanite Reaper which was bomb at the time. Right in front of the Alliance entry area a Gnome Mage stood with around 2k HP. Windfury procced as I approached him and it was like a coveted quad crit, numbers around 1.2-1.8k each, he just totally melted and I was hooked from then on.
Runescape, I poured so much of my elementary/middle school life into that game.
Before WoW took over? Mostly City of Heroes/Villains. Also played stuff like Aion, Tabula Rasa, SWTOR, Warframe, and Marvel Heroes Omega. Iâm also sure I tried a few others, I just canât recall them currently.
City of Heroes, Warframe, and MH took up the majority of the time played though.
I didnât play MMORPGs before WoW. I played Diablo, RTS games and FPS.
FlyFF - typical Korean grindfest MMO.
EQ 1 (Tarew Marr) + 2, GW 1 + 2
None. WoW was my first.
Anarchy Online - (Best Game Ever)
My first MMO was Legends of Kesmai on the Gamestorm service c.1998. Then moved on to EQ1 when it went live in 1999, played on the Prexus server until shortly after Scars of Velious launched. Didnât touch another MMO until vanilla WoW.
EDIT: technically Legends of Kesmai was a MUD, but the genre got me hyped for EQ1
Do MUDâs count?
Outside those, WoW was my first.
Starwars Galaxies, Eclipse if I recall.
Amazing game despite what an incredibly buggy mess it was. Then they tried to WoWify it.
Tried WoW at that point and was amazed. Everything worked and you didnât have to spend all your time trying to work around know issues.
PONG !!! And Missle comand
EQ, EQ2 beta and live, SWG till they messed it up, Age of Conan, Tabula Rasa beta and live, Final Fantasy XIV, ESO beta and live, SW TOR beta and live, still subbed to it and tried a few Korean ftp games, Yes I am addicted to MMOâs. (is there a support group, lol)
Final Fantasy 11
I didnât, WOW took my MMO virginity.
WoW was not only my first MMORPG, but also my first RPG.
That was a side effect of not having a console or computer of my own in my 90s, and then in the 2000s having Macs as my computer (back then there were plenty of Mac games, but few of them were RPGs and MMORPGs were even more rare).
Probably the biggest name games I had played prior to WoW were Descent and Halo: CE. Had watched friends play Resident Evil 4 and Metal Gear Solid 4 on their consoles though.
So easy to get completely lost in that game and never find your corpse. Spells had to be individually researched for each character. So complicated.
They didnât even offer you a smoke either!
