I just mean the way people use the term generally.
“An intern designed this boss” or “an intern wrote this storyline.”
As someone who used to design WoW bosses out of boredom and put real effort into them, and as someone who used to write fanfiction and took care to avoid plot holes and flat characters, I almost take it personally. Hire me as an intern and give me a story to write or a boss to design and I will not half-bake it.
Some of the best stories I’ve ever read were fanfiction. The people who wrote them are almost certainly not professional writers, but I’m confident they could write a better story than the actual writers at most AAA companies or Hollywood studios.
