Positive Aspects of Anniversary

Given the recent news, I thought it would be timely and appropriate to list the positive changes Blizzard made to Classic Anniversary servers. I also invite everyone to share what they believe Blizzard did right.

  1. Tempo – I thought the increased tempo was fun because it always seemed there was something to do. I didn’t get every piece of gear I wanted, but the raids felt more fresh.

  2. Dual Spec – This was massive for me. While I think it would have been nice to be able to change specs during the preparation phase of a BG (2 min countdown), it was great to be able to have a pvp and a pve spec.

  3. Black Lotus Change – While I would have preferred for Blizzard to completely randomize lotus spawns in the high-level zones, I do appreciate the change they made to prevent monopolization of lotus. I understand bots are an underlying issue, but I think the lotus change was good as it allowed gatherers to find them as they gathered in high-level zones.

  4. Debuff/Buff Limit Removed – This was a great change as it allows for all buffs and debuffs to be utilized making other classes/specs serve a role. The original limit was in place due to technical limitations, and insofar as the current technology can support it, there’s no reason for every class not to be able to use their kit to the fullest.

  5. LFG Tool – This one surprised me. I did not expect to like this feature, but it was implemented in a very minimal way. I often had trouble even using the LFG chat given all the bots (again an underlying issue), and this tool was helpful in finding players. I still have to talk to the group leader when trying to get into a group, or conversely, when I’m looking to recruit people to a group. This maintains the social aspect of finding people who will best fit into the group.

These are my favorite 5 changes. Share yours below.

I like that we got modern guild panel, I can scroll up in guild chat from when I was offline and see what my guildmates were talking about. It’s almost like a forum where you can respond to people who are offline and they can see it when they log in. (Not everyone checks discord 100x a day.)

I also like that they were willing to put Chronoboons in immediately and not waste our time with 2019 struggles. (Chronoboon was added in halfway through Naxx last time, it was brutal!)

I wish they’d have gone with the Black Lotus changes right from launch, I don’t know why they didn’t.

I hope for next classic fresh launch they have these changes right from day 1!

Dual Spec means I can easily switch between Feral and Balance as needed for PVE and PVP. A massive improvement for anybody who isn’t a single-spec one-trick pony (or Eyr).

When the LFG Tool was first rolled out in WoTLK Classic – seemingly as a consolation prize for RDF – it was massively underwhelming. However, now, in Level 60 WoW, it is an excellent tool for 5-mans and 20-man PUGs.

one feature the LFG Tool needs is an icon that indicates a player has a note. I use the note field to indicate that I can do lolcat, lolowl, or OT.
