Pointless Pet Battles?

99% of all the Pet Battles in BFA can be done with the Unborn Val’kyr and Ikky or just solo’d by the Iron Starlette. There’s hundreds of pets but we essentially only need 3?

It didn’t used to be this way. The legendary pets in Tanaan came with two trash pets that they empowered.

But those were too tough(Well, once they nerfed howl bombing) so they made the pet battles easy. Now everyone is complaining the other way.

What the Future Holds

In a future update, we’re targeting a number of balance changes we want to make, which will amount to lowering the effectiveness of some pets and strategies. Again, these changes will not be happening in Visions of N’Zoth, but we wanted to give you ample warning time that changes are coming. While we don’t have specific numbers or details to share right now, here are some examples of abilities that we’re going to take a close look at:

• Black Claw and similar abilities that increase damage taken by a flat amount.
• Hunting Party and similar abilities such as Flock.
• The Shattered Defenses debuff effect from abilities such as Hunting Party or Flock.
• Any large percent-damage-taken or percent-damage-dealt buffs or debuffs.
• Twilight Meteorite and similar long-cooldown damage-splitting abilities.
• The Jar of Smelly Liquid ability.
• Hermit Crab

Of course that last one isn’t an ability, but Hermit Crab incorrectly has a higher stat budget than it should, and it will have its stats reduced to bring it in line with other similar pets.

There’s already a blue post on the future of the battles that mentions that the combination of Black Claw and Flock will be looked at and changed in Shadowlands.

Also, Boneshard is a much better option than Unborn Val’kyr for all of the Mechagon/Nazjatar pet battles

Well I don’t want the Val’kyrs effectiveness reduced. I hunted that guy down way before pet battles even became a thing because she’s so cool and matches my LK/DK theme. They should just buff the others.

As mentioned there are some changes coming. However, I am looking forward to being able to use more than even a small handful. There are pet and pet combos that have been the mainstay for several expansions. I have 1100 other pets that I would love to be able to utilize as well.

How much of that though is because we go to a site like Xu-fu’s and take ‘their best pet combo’ vs. utilizing other tools and making our own pet combinations?
