Plz Stop Time Gating Rep

Shhh. WotlK is the shining impeccable pinnacle of WoW’s life-cycle that could do no wrong. You can’t point out flaws!

Y’know, there’s casual, and then there’s comatose. If you’re only going to play a few hours a week, then you’re going to get a minimal return for character advancement. That’s not Blizzard’s fault, this isn’t Candy Crush.

It’s clearly having the exact opposite effect.

Now there’s “Lots” of nothing to do, since most stuff(like cosmetics, pathfinder and many other rewards) are gated behind something you cannot do at your own pace.

People end up feeling no enjoyment of their game time and log out less. Everything has been designed with time metrics in mind for the sole purpose of halting your gameplay pace.

Sure, you had a huge amount of players out there running everything as fast as they could, but that’s because they enjoyed doing so, never were they told before “stop, this is not how we want you to play” until WoD.

Not really no, people are quitting because they (understandingly) aren’t enjoying the game as a whole, and it’s not strictly because time gated reps exist. The lower (presumes) player count of BfA is due to a multiple problems, not just one.

If everyone hates time gates, we would have all quit back on MoP when they stopped doing tabard rep grinds and went solely to dailies/random drop tokens.

Times gates are a necessary evil in the MMO genre so we as a playerbase don’t eat up all the content the developers make in a week and quit. Because (as we’ve done in the past) we will ravenously consume it, and the devs can’t fill our (proverbial) plates fast enough.

It’s one of the contributing factors, along with flying(timegated too) and Class prunning, which is why it was addressed in the last patch highlight, just to name a few.

WoW is not just one single task at hand, true, but when you remove the ability to do stuff in the way you want it, you’ll get negative reactions, no matter how well you tune it. There’s no reason these system are to be in first place, if I’m not mistaken, World of Warcraft used to be far more successful in the past and never had we encounter these “necessities” before.

What happened? The changes have all been progressive, never did they broke everything in one single swoop. All these minor changes built up to what we have today.

If anything, we should be thinking on how to undo the stuff that ruined the fun for so many instead of trying as hard as possible to deny different forms of playing this game.

Yes i really slowed my playing down more than it even was b4 for the fact that i felt like i was accomplishing hardly anything. Even sent me to play other things in my time. Doing the 3 emissaries and the ones in the zone. Its done purposely to drag out the time needed to complete it to encourage people to log on each day. Being forced into 1 type of play is never good.

Being able to save emissaries over 3 days does the opposite of forcing people to log in every day.

You don’t want the time gating removed, you want to be able to put less time in period to get the rep.

Class design and pathfinder are big reasons, rep gating is not. Rep is much faster to grind now than it was back in classic thru wrath, even with tabard farming in dungs. It took less than 4 weeks to grind out pathfinder 1. Thats every rep for nearly the entire first half of the expansion in under 4 weeks. There are plenty of real issues to complain about in BfA, but this is not 1 of them.

Hey hey. You can’t just become the best friend with someone in a day. That stuff takes time.

1 month i maxed out reps in bc in days farming how does anyone think this is faster. But to each there own. Im asking for options if you prefer world quest by all means. The whole pathfinder is ridiculous to me. What does rep got to do with flying, i can see discovering all the zones makes sense but rep with everyone to fly.

i am down to less than 1 hour per day playing, and that will come to an end once i finish the rep for the voldunai.

8.2 is finally coming soon, but i suspect that will be like 2 or 3 days of content at most. and then some more time gated rep based stuff.

It wasn’t. Because back then, people didn’t whine about things nearly as much as they do now. Look at how people whine about rep grinds which take like 1/4 the time it used to in Vanilla, BC, Wrath, etc.

I’m glad to see they improved the dailies for getting the rep in this case because instead of having it be only one faction, it’s split between two that also have quest lines as well. That being said, I’ve always said I’d rather have a cool quest line that’s more narrative driven to explain why we couldn’t fly and how we overcame it, even if they released it week by week, because then it’s easy to catch up for people who are behind and you don’t feel punished for not logging in everyday.

I’ll the be the first to admit though, I don’t mind it being gated a little, I have friends who work like 15 hours a week and having to listen to them go on about how quickly they got flying because they can spend the rest of the week in a group grinding the same mobs all day is grating lol.

At least, I still get to hear it in some forms like “WELL THIS IS MY 8th character with a level 50 neck!”
