I mean Malfurion is pretty damn OP, he IS the strongest mortal on the planet.
But people on this thread also forget that it’s not a horde/alliance thing it’s just that the writers are incompetent. You don’t write someone as being the strongest mortal only to have them come face to face with the Horde warchief and blind them only to run away.
The val’kyr for sylvanas are like elune for tyrande or the light for Anduin. They are a big part of her character since the horde leader are not as op as the alliance leader, her val’kyr are the only thing that can make her standing against them…
If you would put a bit more interest in the horde story you would realise that we lost something important and that just because of the alliance crying when tyrande was not killing anything in the first version…
I’m not saying they aren’t that big of a deal, for Sylvanas they are a big deal. But you’re pitting them against something that the writers have essentially made a god.
The thing is Tyrande did not focus on them. They are maybe weak in combat but they do have great power and one of them was powered Nathanos giving him a great defence. The only reason the fight last this long is because that Tyrande kept attacking the one with the magic defense. After that she one shoted the Val’kyr and Nathanos became vulnerable and this is were the fight was lost for him.
Also keep in mind that the fight was that long for a gameplay reason and was probably shorter.
Remember when Malfurion was laying face down with an axe in his back- and didn’t die cuz… the person who wanted him dead most just walked away.
That my friends is what plot armour thicker than a tank looks like. Not tank armour- the entire tank.
That said- you have a problem here in how the two factions have been written. Horde is more like LotR- sure there’s some powerful guys, but for the most part everyone is pretty normal beyond your gandalf (Thrall) and Sauron (Gul’dan).
Alliance is written like DBZ, where whenever someone gets too strong- you just make everyone else stronger, and stronger, and stronger.
Oh, Malf is pretty tough huh? Well how about if he can take on an entire group of the Horde’s storngest by himself? Yeah, well let’s turn Tyrande into evil Sailor Moon! Oh, and the high king, he can’t just be some priest, he needs to get his dad’s sword and become a priestadin… oh! And let’s give him mass combat rez too!
See- it’s absurd, and don’t even get me started on Elsa flying in to save the day on the flying dutchman.
I’m going to be honest- Alliance plot has some problems, but they ARE NOT the Alliance being beaten too much. The main problem is they aren’t beaten enough; you shouldn’t be asking for more and more power, you should be asking for comparable power to the Horde.
There’s a reason in stories the good guys are always- weaker, fewer in numbers, and less unified (to start). Because when you have a story like this where the good guys (the Alliance) vastly outscale the villains in power, numbers, and unity the only way you can really write it is to have the good guys absolutely squash the villains (which would be the end of the game entirely). Or, have a story that really makes no sense.
It’s easy to see the other faction’s plot armor - while overlooking your own.
Example: The side with Malfurion Stormrage and a spaceship should be destroying the Horde, absolutely wrecking them. Especially after they burned down Teldrassil.
But! Sylvanas’ Royal Apothecary should have lain waste to the denizens of Stormwind quite some time ago. The Goblins should absolutely be dropping bombs all over Alliance territory too. Explosions is what they do.

Without plot armor, you’re exactly right - this would be over faster than Desert Storm. The only real weapons the Horde have that could even slightly compete are goblin war machines (notoriously unreliable) and the Forsaken Blight (which can be rendered ineffective by the angry super mage.)
