How are friends always missing the boat to play? Launch was what a month ago? It was talked about for months before then so how do you miss out?
Some people have IRL and can’t just hop on during launch.

Nah, server is fine as it is right now. If you want to play with friends that are not on grobb choose a different server.

Too many benefits in keeping the server locked.
Bots cannot regenerate (big win)
Unlikely to have future queues when big patches drop
Better to reduce layers and have an actual community rather than mega slop
Besides, if your friends really meant something to you, you’d move to a server that you can all play on.

Unfortunately it seems they have no intentions to unlock it… even though they didn’t mention it in a post that the regular player can comment on, they did make they intentions known in the WoW Community Council forums…
We have disabled new character creation and incoming paid transfers to the US and EU mega-realms, and they will remain locked indefinitely.
Yes, unlock it so that the queues start again immediately, great idea.
It’d be better if they just like gave people a limited number of invites to allow friends to get on the server. Add some restrictions like having been bnet friends for a year or something.
