Flying saved the game

Mate it’s been almost 19 out of 21 years since we have had flying, it’s time to evict this train of thought.

I don’t see how that matters. It was a poor decision in TBC, it’s a poor decision today.

The world is a lot less meaningful when you soar over it.

When people aren’t able to get to rares quickly enough before they die and they are used to flying of course they are going to want to fly.

The solution here really should have been invincible prespawns for rares. This allows folks to get there without flying and still participate. Then the folks wanting flying can still want it and complain about it, but the argument is no longer about needing it to do the content.

OK but the game has been designed with flying in mind, because we’ve basically always had flying. Only the OG zones were designed to not have flying, how often do you go back to the old zones in Classic and walk around?

They have tried that in the past, people did not like waiting, or did not know how to see them prespawn.

There was Forbidden Reach where you could buy an item that would show them where they would spawn 1 minute prior. There was that zone south of the Maw where some rares would show up and need an event to take place before they spawned, ZM even had that dunes trio that would take a minute before you could attack.

There have probably been others, I think Zaralek also had some like this, but now the rares in Midnight spawn every 15 minutes or something, so if you miss one, set a timer and come back in 10 minutes and wait for it.

Nothing is ever going to completely work for this game, there are far too many players who have far too much of a different ideal on what they want, and people will always complain no matter what, Blizzard can only do so much before someone whines.

We’ve been fed a lot of flying zones throughout the expansions, so to have a zone without flying makes it feel frustrating.

I’m beginning to wonder if being conditioned to always fly has been a bad idea.

I say it was to slow down how much we do to make it last longer.

Kinda wish they’d do more zones without flying that are just called down to size accordingly tbh. Dragon riding was a can of worms appropriately opened during Dragonflight but shoulda ended after that

Remember when they said they heard players and weren’t going to keep taking flight away?

Its a zone or two, not the whole expansion. If it is a problem don’t go to those zones. Not everything in an expansion/patch needs to be for everyone.

Not quite. Blizzard wanted to remove flying during WoD. The backlash over that is what led to the pathfinder achievement which was meant to be a compromise. Of course, pathfinder was so terrible that it ended up going away.

Huh. No flying? I guess I can wait for Midnight Remix for the collectibles.

The whole point of these 2 mini zones is to be dangerous in the ground, that’s the gimik. If you could just fly over all the bad stuff they would be trivial.

I agree. I have played since February 2009. The only times I have ever taken extended periods away from the game was when they took away flying for whole zones and patches. I will say there have been a couple of times it worked like the Throne of Thunder patch was okay. But the Timeless Isle was the first time I took a break. Every expansion with pathfinder I took a break, especially if they added a patch with no flying after I finally earned flying.

There goes any interest I had in the new zones. Do the minimum and ignore it after that. I have zero interest in any open world zones where flight is restricted.

This is especially upsetting after telling us a few months ago that they would not meaningfully restrict flight in the future. Then they restrict flight in the very next zones, going against what they said.

I remember that exact same thing.
