Please revert feral hotfix/use 2.0 energy [FIXED, ty Blizz!]

I think the issue most have with it, and the reason I don’t enjoy feral dps personally, is that: To play cat, you must constantly shift out of cat, while gaining no real caster-form bonuses. It’s just a way to game the energy generation from a talent and item combo. Which also locks your helm slot as a lv 40-ish blue. If it was shift out > Cast a rejuv/moonfire > reshift - or something of that sort, I’d be 10x more enthused about it. But as a quick in-out same GCD style of thing, it’s just not ideal to me. All the power to anyone that does enjoy it, of course.

While I understand that powershifting is BETTER, and to some, more engaging and fun… to me, it breaks the theme of feral dps. In that you ought to be in cat form. I could see it if there was some benefit to shifting BEAR and stacking lacerates or something, but that doesn’t fit into how the powershifting and such works as of now.

While I know I probably don’t need to say this, but for the same reason of telling someone not to restrict your idea of fun, it’s the same to not imply that everyone has fun with it. I don’t, but that’s why I simply just don’t play it. Anyone who wants to is more than welcome, and I fully support it.

Related conclusion: If it makes ferals happy, #somechanges ain’t so bad here. More happy players means a healthier community.

you dont really go into caster-form… in classic, the idea is to get back into cat form asap. in the context of classic powershifting, its instantaneous. It shouldnt be treated as leaving cat form, it should be treated as spending X mana to gain X energy.
I agree with the rest of your post!

Exactly. I’ve always thought of it as an ability that’s converting mana into energy, which makes gearing a lot more interesting and this way Int and Spirit doesnt feel like a completely dead stat for a lot of cats, which is great since there’s a lot of Int even on feral tier sets in TBC.

yes, and makes things like pvp gear actually really useful!

how can you people say power shift was never meant to be a thing. They put FUROR and wolfshead helm in the game for a reason.

Because there are times to shift. Like if you are cat and need to go bear because the tank died. One shift…not crazy shifting

I mostly just meant mechanically, but yes. It’s all about getting that energy boost right away. It just doesn’t -feel- good to me. Which is fine. If others love it, they’re allowed to. I’ll be happy with my Resto dreams.

This is all speculation, of course, but I -believe the reason for those items was to imply the constant shifting between forms as a hybrid. So that when you shift out of cat/bear to heal yourself/allies, going back into the forms doesn’t leave you resourceless. It was the ‘high five’ reward for being a team player and helping a healer mid-dungeon, and things like that. Powershifting is a clever use of game mechanics that allows that talent and helmet to be so much better - kudos to those that figured it out back in the day.

That has nothing to do with why furor or wolfshead helm are in the game. They are designed the way they are for a reason bro. Just admit you don’t like the mechanic.

how can you people say power shift was never meant to be a thing. They put MCP in the game for a reason.

jokes aside, players found interesting mechanics to abuse and it resulted in a unique dps class. the original intent doesn’t really matter here, so long as the kitties keep their unique, engaging rotation.

I don’t understand why we can’t just get a response from Blizzard on what is clearly a very controversial and cared-for change. They can post a quick reply about the 30-instance cap, but can’t just say “this is working as intended” or “this is being addressed” to help just draw a line in the sand?

I also don’t understand why people are OK with Seal Twisting being added, or Seal of Blood, but not keeping energy ticks the same for feral druids. It hurts one of the already weakest classes. If we’re making exceptions for Paladins, we should also be OK making exceptions for Feral Druids (especially since this looks like it was initially an unintended change way back in 2008).

I get your joking but MCP literally has nothing to do with powershifting. Any class that can use 2h maces can utilize MCP, although not recommended.

Another alternative; Tiger’s fury is useless. Rework it to cost mana (yes, while in cat form) and restore energy (with an appropriate cooldown) to give the influx of energy without powershifting. You’d have to have the Furor talent also affect this new Tiger’s Fury. Then cats stay in cat form, the energy tick changes don’t matter, our DPS rotation is basically the same, and life goes on.

It’s part of the class. Just like how thistle tea and vanishing mechanics is a part or Rogues

And that’s fine, however you can’t play druid at anything above an very VERY casual level without powershifting. Please understand this change does nothing to help the class. You didn’t gain anything from this. You lost an energy tick in your optimal rotation. There is no victory to be had trying to hate on the play style. If you want kitty form without shifting being required then wait until wotlk classic ™

Then why have it add energy as well? Why not have a cooldown on the effects? Why add a 5 point talent or and item that takes up an entire helmet slot only to give 10 rage or 20-40 energy ONCE in a fight? It makes no sense. The only way for the helmet to be worth the slot is to shift multiple times in a boss fight.
Are you honestly telling me you would give up your helmet slot as a rogue to for a one-time boost of 20 energy per fight?

Blizzard don’t overthink this, just add it back.

Another point as well, Druids don’t really upgrade their autos much. That energy is very important to us. We don’t have slice n dice or other things to fill the gaps during ticks.

(Nor do we have any offensive cooldowns, which makes us even worse in fights with burst windows/any fight with movement)

I just don’t understand this change and the refusal to provide any sort of commentary on what the future holds. Very frustrating.

Every single change (decision) that Blizzard makes, some players disagree with. I don’t think there has EVER been an exception, since 2004. So “some players disagree” is NOT a reason to modify a decision. They knew BEFORE they made the decision that some players would disagree.

That isn’t saying the decision wasn’t wrong. But it was made for reasons. It was NOT made on a whim, or as a joke, or when drunk, etc.

If you want to change or reverse this decision, you need to give Blizzard some NEW reasons – reasons that they didn’t think about when making this change. The most common reasons are “unexpected consequences” – affects this causes that the devs DID NOT consider.

It doesn’t help to tell them things they DID consider, or tell them that you would make a different decision (in their game).

I think you breezed over most of what I’ve been saying. I’m allowed to personally dislike a style, while also fully supporting people that DO like it. Which I currently do. If you read above, I offered (albeit brief) my support to -not- having this energy gimping change implemented.

I’m not hating on the playstyle. I’m not hating on the players. And I’m in full support of allowing and bolstering the players that do want to play it. So please take your sass/hostility/whatever negativity, and… well, convert it to some positivity. We all just want to have fun here. (Except the people that don’t. But we don’t acknowledge them.)
