It really tells you something about WoW’s playerbase that people still vote yes. (Although I suppose sometimes the person’s behavior speaks for itself.)
But in the case of gkick, it doesn’t even require voting. And there would be no way to enforce that the reason would make sense, so anything more informative than a random insult or gibberish would only be there if they wanted it to be.
Allowing explanations (if it’s currently not even possible to put one) might have some value in some situations, but there’s no effective way to require them.
Yeah I’m just gonna start my own guild at this point and require officers to explain when they kick a member via in-game mail. This getting gkicked and not knowing why is getting old.
Mean this in the nicest way possible but this feels like a post made in anger. It’s always good to do self reflecting and think “what might have I done that led to my removal?” Sometimes there’s just no answer to that. At the end of the day it’s the GM’s guild, they can do what they want. Requiring a paragraph to remove people from your own guild sounds like a terrible idea.
At the end of the day remember this is a game. You got kicked from a guild, who cares? There’s millions of others to choose from.
Wait, did this not used to be a thing? Our GM used to regularly kick this lady in our guild (it was a running joke, we were all friends) and I could have sworn he would type in inappropriate reasons for it.
This is very clearly only one side of the story. if you’ve been “randomly” kicked from two seperate guilds for “no reason” you’ve clearly behaved in a way thats worth being kicked over.
And this is probably for the best. There are an infinite number of reasons you may be removed. What you would be told as the reason may not even be the truth. Regardless, if you were given a reason for your removal what do you think the odds are that you would agree with it as being legitimate? It would likely only make you more angry. This is likely one of those situations where “ignorance is bliss” and you will be able to move along sooner.
If I had a reason though then I’d have an area for growth pointed out to me and it’d be a learning experience. Just getting kicked from a guild and seeing the words, “you’ve been removed from the guild” in yellow or logging on to find yourself no longer in the guild doesn’t make you closer to the ideal guild member which a guild wants to keep.
I respect a guild master’s right to kick someone if they want to because it’s their guild. But I also think there should be respect towards guild members to explain why they are getting kicked. If someone is doing something wrong they should probably be told what’s wrong so they can right their wrong; rather than continue being wrong (and not knowing how they’re wrong).
It’s like if you got a traffic ticket with only the fine written on it but the officer, county, and courthouse aren’t required to tell you what the law was you broke and you’re just required to pay it or plead to have it forgiven not knowing what caused you to get it.
As a guild master, I am here to tell you that, while it might suck and you might wish you had a reason, and it would certainly be courteous to provide you with a reason - no, there’s nothing wrong with a guild master removing you without informing you as to why. They have no obligation to do so, and nothing you wish for would make that the case.
Again, would it be courteous? Sure. Should they? Yeah. Do they have to? No.
This is a very valid reason to be given a reason, but I would wager that it is also one that would impact a small minority of the player population. I mean, I seldom hear about people that are kicked from a raid because their dps is too low, then look back and think to themselves “yes, I need to get better gear before the next time I ask to join.” Guilds are a lot more open ended as far as things that might be seen as unfavorable than bad dps.
