cool bud, def too childish for a rated 13 and up mmo
Thats taking twice the steps when exorcism exists, has longer range higher damage and it looks cooler even tho its a 15 year old spell.
Exorcism has beem important for longer boj has existed. Exorcism is iconic, divine toll and woa are not lmao. Anyways why are others getting mad at me I said that blizzard wont ever delete boj and they wont so dont worry you will have your trashcan clanking whenever you press it till the end of days.
Seems like there’s potential tgat all our abilities will deal some combo of holy and physical in the rework. Means it will still break holy-specific CC but will otherwise bypass armor. If that ends up being the case there"s really no reason to remove BoJ.
That said, if it doesn’t…
I’ve said it before but I honestly think it just needs to be a choice node,
Exorcism being the AoE choice and BoJ being the ST choice, each having modifiers that branch to tree into either of those playstyles and effect the spell in a way that makes sense/benefits it (say Exorcism butns, BoJ crits or something)
Yeah, I personally liked old Exorcism. Its range and crit on undead/demons, and its sound made it satisfying to use. It helped to start to generate HP while running in. People bring up mobility talents from WoD, but many forget that the rotation itself was pretty ranged and that added to the feeling of mobility quite a bit.
Although I do like how BoJ generates 2 HP. It adds spice to the rotation, and unfortunately porting that to the 30 yard Exorcism might be too much. At the same time I’m not sure current design can support losing 2 HP from BoJ, unless they half the Judgment cooldown. Which is again why the spec felt so mobile back in WoD, you practically had 75% uptime on Long arm of the Law. With that, Exo plus Holy Prism, plus Judgmenet, you could kite and poke from distance pretty consistently.
one, cooler is subjective. because exo was also lackluster for me and frankly i like boj animation way more than exo. but again im not going to let my rp preferences mess with spec tuning and balancing.
also holy moly, wake of ashes is literally the main move of the ashbringer, if you think age makes a ability iconic. the ashbringer which was apart of the lore since warcrafts inception automatically makes wake of ashes the most iconic thing in our kit.
divine toll is iconic because its judgement but stronger. throwing tons of judgement in one gcd. it literally a upgrade of our most iconic spell.
im mad that you would even suggest that ugly sounding flash of light spell with a small lame whisp is “iconic” while instating that wake of ashes the signature move of the ashbringer isnt
Wake is not iconic, the lore yes and the weapon itself is great but the spell didnt exist until 2016. Did you start playing in legion?
Divine toll was only used because it was damn OVERPOWERED, not because it was cool, “paladin esque”. Damn insane to see people arguing SHADOWLAnds borrowed power is iconic to the spec. Or is ringing clarity iconic? Who knows since it was rc what made dt op. Hence once vanquisher hammer became the better option everyone switched over. Is vh iconic? Maybe ashen hollow is iconic too a huge red patch nothing screams paladin more than blood red fx.
As much as you hate it most paladins that played since wrath would take exorcism over boj. Specially considering boj is part of what started the downfall of the spec as a whole. Boj is a trash spell, buffed multiple times since SL and still borderline useless. You could have literally anything have the same range and hp generation and people wouldnt care. Damn I guess just like there is that one or two that love steed theres also a few boj enthusiasts. Good for you I guess.
once again, a abilities “age” doesnt make it iconic. if you think that then consecration is our most iconic spell. also vanquishers hammer has never been bis for ret.
wotlk is literally right there. go play that if you want exo. it wasnt buffed in shadowlands at all btw. out of all the classes in wow. paladin has the most “please ad this specific spell for rp reasons” players and its annoying
Like I said, my opinion. We should have a option too choose, glyphs or talent…
When I played in cataclysm I think, there was a option to make ur judgment looks like a sword falling in the head of the enemy, its was nice, option… And btw that new horse skill, man wth is that, looks a generic mmorpg or a moba.
I like blade of justice, i just want it to have more range and do holy damage.
Don’t forget to put back the original Divine Storm animation.
horse is fine, and literally better than speed of light. but yes lets add glyphs for cosmetics thats fine.
im not talking about balance but comparing it to old speed of light, well theres no comparison. speed wasnt on gcd and steed is. not to mention the duration. steed is insanely clunky to use and balance aside it looks stupid especially due to its short duration
the duration of speed of light was worse than 2 charges of steed. it was 8 seconds for 70% speed on a 45 second cd. steed is 5 seconds with 2 charges so a total of 10 seconds both on a 45 second cd. so you can use steed back to back or save one charge of steed when you need it.
look steed isnt the best mobility. no one will argue that. but again suggesting literal down grades as suggestions because
is just stupid. again the only thing steed needs is to be removed from the gcd and a reduction of tauren kobo hitboxes
the worst part of BoJ is the goofy animation where you stick your sword up in the air. its the same reason i hate divine storm in retail too. literally every aoe pack im sticking my sword in the air like some larper
Yes, idk why they did that to all skills, its looks so stupid, my char is not He-man. About the horse, Im fine with the skill, the animation that sucks, mount a horse for a few secs, let us have speed without the horse
Right, but, let’s try a hypothetical for a moment:
- We’ll start from a theoretical properly tuned form of the current version, and/or with the due mobility to make BoJ work ‘as intended’.
- Now, if you want to give your AoW-resettable whatever-it-may-be a greater range and greater effectiveness against plate by making it Holy damage… what are you willing to give up?
That extra range and anti-plate damage are objectively of value, even if far more so in PvP than PvE (the implications of which tend to hold us back, upon balance, in PvE more so than overpower us in PvP). So what equal value would you be okay with losing?
At the end of the day, you’re trading profiles (or the shape of the spec, and thereby its apparent themes/niches), not just total throughput.
Don’t get me wrong; I preferred WoD Ret over anything since, but… I think I’d prefer to have in that position
- a mid-range ability with physical damage that’d therefore, on balance, have advantage over clothies
—over— - a longer-ranged magical ability that’d have advantage vs. plate, especially if that extra range would otherwise excuse a continued lack of mobility.
It just seems more cohesive, and more in keeping with our Crusader theme. And so I’d rather keep BoJ as the core/normalized choice, and just improve it a bit more as fitting.
Right, but that’s because at its position it was best for it to be applicable to the other specs as well. It was a middling, well, middle-ground.
That perhaps makes it iconic for when we played Paladin more so than Prot/Holy/Ret, but… I don’t think that will have ever made it a particular iconic Ret spell.
It simply happened to have once been the thematically class-wide spell attached to Art of War, which was an iconic Ret feature.
I know I for one wasn’t consulted in this random sampling the OP created, but I prefer BOJ over Exo every single day from a thematic standpoint.
My favorite iteration of the Paladin archetype is Final Fantasy Tactics temple knights and a ton of their abilities look just like Blade of Justice. In fact, I’d be surprised if it wasn’t a straight up homage to it.
I’ve been playing Ret ever since 2004. I have 0 alts and I dislike steed before you accuse me of also liking that.
I like the new wing animation. I also quite like Radiant Decree.
That’s about it.
