Please Remove the Retail Skinning Function - Economy Crash

Please, remove the retail variant of skinning from Forever and revert it back to classic.

If you’re in a dungeon or raid group with skinners, every skinner can skin the mob. This has created a meta of 30-40 man skinning raids, of players forcing hyper spawns and each player in the raid skinning the best skins.

This is going to absolutely destroy and tank the skinning market / economy / profession. And already has proven so on beta and past iterations of the game.

I just watched a YouTube video about this.. I’m totally against this. Judging by the comments and the likes of those comments on the video, most agree this is a horrible decision.

I actually like it. It makes skinning less of a hassle overall.

While it may seem like a less of a hassle. It completely devalues skinning. It WILL completely ruin the economy and defeats the purpose of evening taking skinning as a profession.

My skinning is still valuable because I can get the leather I need for free. Then I can make the gear I want. I also get access to useful campfire buffs.

But with the current system you’ll be able to buy it for almost free, and then pickup a gathering profession that actually makes gold to support crafting etc.

Almost free is not free. Much like almost 6 foot is still just 5’ 11".

I’m not in this to make gold. I pick professions to support the gear and consumes I need.

Right, but the game doesn’t just revolve around you. Think about this, if the leather economy is completely tanked b/c of a bad design choice. Then a large portion of players that would normally roll with skinning, would roll a different gathering / commodity professions, which then saturates and tanks THAT economy even more.

So now not only are you affecting 1 commodity market, but multiple economy markets, and lower the entire economy as a whole.

And then the lack of skinners dries up the market, and things stabilize.

Lol no, b/c of a bugged and flawed system, that market remains flooded.

How?

Where is all the leather coming from if no one is skinning?

Are you that dense? With a bad design/bugged system, it requires much much less people to saturate and ruin the market.

IDK… if leather is cheap, and ore is cheap, and herbs are cheap… maybe consumes and craftables will be affordable instead of crazy overpriced like every version of Classic so far?

I get wanting to make some gold, but like… reasonable price margins make sense to me.

Make resources more available, not less. Give us shared world herbs/mines as well that despawn X time after first tapped. Let the markets be full and healthy, not just controlled by gatherbots and people with epic mounts doing laps around pre-calculated perfect routes with their gathermate maps built over years of Classic server data.

Why skinning? Is there anything else they let get abused to this level? It just seems very wrong to me.

Lets not forget, that the devs have already stated at blizzcon and through various other means such as dev talks, that they have also added and implemented MANY gold sinks into the game, that will require a stable and active economy.

It was also mentioned in the dev discussion about having a tight reign on swipers buying gold. That players will be very tempted to buy gold due to the amount of gold sinks they have implemented and more to be implemented. For progression among other things.

So do you really want cheap commodity prices due to a bad design choice and/or bug

We’re already going to have massive servers with tens of thousands of people on them, potentially. The threshold to meet to saturate the market is already there.

That’s not true. It’s no different than those same amount of players being segregated into separate servers with separate economies, or all being merged together into one. That ratio remains the same.

I myself (have leveled many skinners) do not like the idea of being able to skin a mob more than once. It just does not make sense to me. IRL you skin something and that it that, there is no other skinning involved (or at least to my knowledge.) For me this isn’t a Classic vs Retail discussion, it’s a functionality thing. Similarly if they do this with skinning, why would it not also go with mining and herbing?

That would be a very similar concept and then you do eventually tank the economy. I understand the debate about bots and whatnot, but as a whole it just does not work IMO. One skin, one herb, one tink (I get that mining nodes can be gathered by more than one person it just doesn’t give a lot of resource) per person.

That’s not true

Yes, it is true - we’re going to have only 4 ‘servers’ - PvE, PvP, RP, and Hardcore.

It’s no different than those same amount of players being segregated into separate servers with separate economies, or all being merged together into one. That ratio remains the same.

What is the ratio between skinners and leather-users?

Leather doesn’t just apply to “leather-users” and that’s not the ratio you should be asking for. It’s the seller to consumer ratio. Buyer to seller.
