Because there are free transfers to the largest clusters. Anyone who wants to be on the largest clusters can be. Blizzard probably just doesn’t want to deal with merging. It’s easy enough to just leave them alone and have the free transfers.
Merge the empty/dead servers into their own cluster so instead of those servers having 10 people each, they have 20-30, and then open 1-2 fresh servers.

Mootant, I’m curious, do you play era on one of these servers?? Or why does a Tauren from Whitemane care to speak for our communities on these “dead servers”? What’s in it for you? You mention closing them to open Fresh servers. It’s not a zero sum game. They can make fresh servers without closing, merging, or consolidating. Are you worried about their cloud infrastructure bill? Or are you playing on one of them and don’t want to take the free/paid move off??
I just can’t wrap my head around people wanting to merge/close other folks servers when it doesn’t impact them in any way, and the communities that exist on them prefer the way of life that exists today (if we didn’t, we’d be playing elsewhere!)
I don’t see Blizzard opening a fresh server with so many “low” population servers.

Yeah, I’m a classic era player. We kind of like things how they were back then and not like the awfulness WoW has become to appease the ADHD degenerates.
They should merge the servers. They can have a semi-fair system for renaming characters, and the player that keeps their name can have “more time played,” or “earlier creation date,” or every name gets reset and the first players to rename their characters get the name, or something like that.
Or put it behind a paywall for all I care: $4.99 name insurance for a single name, $24.99 for an account (first one to pay gets to keep the character name/account names).
I’d prefer the free systems, of course.
And while they’re at it, start a TBC server. I need my classic-like Blood Elf fix.
No don’t merge them - seriously…the toxicity of the busy server group is horrible and i like low pop. slowly the low pop server group i’m on is growing again because they leave sod and some just dont like the inflated economy and toxic griefing of the busy server group.
What low pop server are you on? Glad to see some more low pop servers doing their thing!
I really just wish they would do fresh Vanilla servers every 18 months or so.

Release 1 Fresh of each type(RP, PVE, RPPVP, PVP) when the seasonal servers come up and let people free XFer off at the end to normal era.
the only server that should be merged is the 2 dead pvp east coast servers do this and disable free transfers nothing more

If Warriors are as good as I suspect that they will be in PVE with all other classes being actually further behind then I suspect people will say “what is the point” and either Quit fully or go back to Era because Era is BiS.
As for PVP, with built in base line resilience /vomit, players who are healing will have fun, and all others will be miserable because its becoming a healers meta… I am a healer but I assure you no one enjoys a healers meta, not even real healers because the game becomes way too scripted and boring. The only time resilience made sense was in Cata / MoP as a bandaid for all the trash piled on, and the fact that they also had healers form of resilience (battle fatigue) because healing was too strong.
Truth be told the game would have been far more exciting without bandaid resilience or any kind of damage / healing reduction because lighting fast meta are fun. Some will say “why don’t you like wrath” Well that’s simple, a small helping of class builds that are an order of magnitude more dominant than others be that on the winning side or not is boring to play.
Where “Vanilla” lacks is that it never had rated PVP but rated PVP is a mistake because of the kind of vile behavior that spawns because of it so a better solution is a tournament every 3 - 4 months that awards a temporary title and NOTHING tangible in game.
