People just wanted 2H Frost back alongside an Obliterate (Obliteration) play style - its that simple!
Blizzard had absolute control over how they went about that process. Saying its the players fault for what you perceive to be a poor design decisions is pretty weak. Having not been able to play 2H Frost for so long, of course most of us are happy to get anything to supports this play style.
Yes, everyone has their random ideas of how to get there. But the reality is 2H frost with some juicy Obliterate crits is the dream and its not the players job to execute the visions, that is all on Blizzard.
I am not going to spit on Blizzard for finally doing something about it. 2H Frost having its own talent build based around Obliteration is great. If DW can use the same build and both are balanced I have zero issues with that. However, if DW pulls ahead in an Obliteration build leaving 2H in the dust then I will voice my displeasure.
Never really had this problem. I’d be fine if they reduced the range from 40 yds tho.
So then you didnt like the spec. Thats really all it boils down to. But why didnt you like the spec? Is it just because 2h was removed? We already know the playstyle was the same outside of a certain period of time so you either just like WoD for big obliterate reasons which Obliterate is not everything that frost is. Death Knights arent even juggernauts and never were. The rune system initially did not allow them to be juggernauts. Only when they slowed everything down did they HAVE to hit hard because you are basically missing uptime on the boss. Thats how you have to balance it. If you are missing 25% uptime on the boss because you are just missing resources and cant do anything about it, then abilities just have to hit harder to compensate for that downtime. Its exactly what happened in WoD. People showed that with stacking haste (which doesnt actually do anything for downtime until after 100% haste) the spec had 25% downtime. People warned that if this wasnt fixed then the damage would have to be increased to compensate for it. What did they do? Just increased the damage… then what happened? Clothies in pvp complained about it.
So many people never had that problem after it was known that it could pull through walls. Funny how early on people complained about it, and now they dont want it to leave.
so is frozen pulse even useful for 2h frost? should it have a 2h componet or ditch it for a talent from the past?
While I agree, that would make it infinitely better, the problem is “Frostwhelps Indignation” is basically a baby version of “Frostwyrm’s Fury”. Since we are getting fury baseline, it would basically just be us having 2 copies of the same ability.
That we can use far more often with icecap. And is a significant portion of our aoe dmg on live especially with the mastery it gives.
Yes, well, unlike with some other specs where blizzard is actively listening to feedback, with Frost DK they’ve essentially permanently decided that “Breath of Sindragosa will be best” so we’re forced into taking a talent that a LOT of people dislike the playstyle of. With today’s patch they’ve actually BUFFED BoS for 2h frost DK, because DW was BoS dominant, while 2h was Obliteration dominant. To make matters worse, a couple of our Conduits in Shadowlands actually pretty heavily increase the value of Frost Strike, whilst BoS essentially shoves Frost Strike down to being a button we dislike pressing because it spends Runic Power.
I never use BoS anyway. I’ve tried it a few times in raids before I fell asleep at the wheel. Ultimately, it just restricts the buttons I press while it’s active, and I have a severe aversion to pruned rotations.
No I don’t think so, maybe with high haste values.
For Shadowlands, Locutus will stay Dual Wield but with Obliteration, Frostscythe and Glacial Advance since Frostwyrm’s Fury will be baseline for all Frost Death Knights. This is kind of a giant compensation buff for this character.
Unfortunately for Icecap, unless they make it more appealing, it will be put on a backburner until it has something like Frostwhelp’s Indignation or Icy Citadel which I’ve seen some posts are not really a big fan of. Personally, I love Icy Citadel because it matched with my Strength Stacking Playstyle.
Since KM58 will be a thing, this is a huge boon for Obliteration. On top of that, Locutus does not have to SPAM Frostscythe like the 8.3 iteration due to stat inflation, he can make the most out of Killing Machines by either using Obliterate for ST or Frostscythe for MT upon popping Obliteration. Plus Glacial Advance can be used to weave Obliteration as well as apply RI stack in an area! That’s Locutus’ thing.
I dearly hope Blizzard can come up something creative for Icecap because I love Icecap even though it’s sometimes brain dead stupid by spamming FScy to get my PoF back in line with Icy Citadel.
