Where are you seeing so many floating houses in neighborhoods with nothing underneath of them?
Every single one I’ve seen is either in a tree, on a platform, on stilts or on floating rocks.

People keep saying its not a bug but it clearly is. The underneath isn’t textured properly, and you have to basically glitch the system in a couple of ways to make it happen. Can you float a house just anywhere at any time? No. It’s a unintended bug and I expect it to be hotfixed sometime soon.
EDIT: Ok, thanks for the update, I did go find a Blue post on it and see they are actually supporting it. Which really surprised me.
It was hotfixed… To now be a feature.

It is not going to be hot fixed. They are supporting it and right now they are suggesting putting rocks or a platform under it.

Sendryn quoted a blue a few posts up saying that while it may not have been intended it is now a feature as Blizz loved the creativity players were doing with it.

A ton of items intended to be placed on walls and floors do not have textured backs. That is also a feature and not a bug, because sometimes you need a dyeable untextured background surface.

They still have a texture on the back, it’s just a solid color.
Houses literally have no face underneath them, which is only done when a developer intends for players to never see that side of a model. No reason to render or spend time adding something that will never be visible to players.

I used the brown wooden base slabs to match the colors, then increased scale to 200%.

skyriding made even better…housing is great.
Really want to have some hope Im not gonna be irritated enough to take a break 4 weeks into midnight, but if this transmog price crap for my lowbie alts doesnt get fixed, I can see that coming regardless.

I am of the “I put a platform under mine to hide the bad texture” school of thought, so think it is OK if you do it right.

Blizzard already addressed this and made it that houses can float.

I’m fine with this, as long as Blizz eventually adds textures under the house, rather than expecting the players to take care of it. We know there will be some that won’t and it will just look bad.
