Isn’t this one of the things that killed rated battlegrounds? Weren’t people having their team mass report members of the enemy team to get them disconnected?
A similar incident happened early in this patch where people would spam report to people who weren’t inviting them to Charger groups because the group either filled up or they were ignored. So people were getting hit with mutes for the crime of not inviting someone to a group.
Lol. I’m glad I got my Charger in 3 kills. Sad to say though I’m not surprised. I’m glad I don’t do pug raids often. I’d have probably been reported by the salty people I boot because they’re bad and unwilling to learn bosses.
You are right, most people did not know about squelch being in game. Blizz did not talk much about it - except in rare instance like the pic you posted.
Right click report has been in game a fairly long time though. I am not sure when, but it was well before 2016. 2016 is just when they reduced the penalty for chat offenses to Silence instead of Suspension. Hoping that removing people from social features would be appropriate and they would learn from it.
Reports with right click are far far more accurate. They capture the name, server, chat channel, time, nature of offense, and the chat logs - not just the reported line, but the report captures the chat around it as well.
I’m not sure when it was. I just remember the early days when I started playing (late 2008) reporting someone took more than a few seconds. Right now I can see a post, right click the name, and report them for any of the 4 or 5 categories listed. A text box pops up asking me to give details, but I don’t have to and can just click the “okay” or “report” button or whatever it says. Its definitely far easier now than it used to be.
I’m sure they are more accurate now, but are they justified? Early days if I wanted to report someone I had to go through a tedious process. Lets say someone called me a “poopy head” in game, and I didn’t like that. I had the option to report them. But back then most players would not have bothered to fill out a report form for something so minor, and that didn’t break tos anyway. Now its different. Now its click, click, click, done.
Thanks for all the information you’ve provided so far in this thread.
If you take a look at the following quote:
…this type of player who doesn’t understand the actual rules or even cares to read the original policies…these are the types that will be abusing the feature. Should there not be a consequence or implementation in place to prevent their actions from disrupting players who are fully abiding by the rules?
They should post on their realm forums and call it a day
I would hope they are just trolling the forums to get reactions and people are biting…
However, I do personally feel that when someone floods the report system with false reports that should be actioned. That causes a heck of a lot more work for the Blizz folks and wastes their time. Most false reports get tossed in the bin, but it still takes time to sort them.
On the good side - the game only counts unique reports per either License or Bnet account. It does not let you switch chars or login/out and keep reporting. I could report you all day and it would only count as 1 report from my account.
