Not sure that’s the same as a pure dps spec
Which is why they should have tied the ability to purchase the Essences to an account wide achievement then apply a currency (as they have now) to the grind to purchase.

Completely agree, spec shouldn’t matter. I would like to remain hopeful they implement something like this.

I mean, they really should just make it true account wide, but if they’re so stuck on this system, they need to make other roles available, or it’s severely punishing to pure DPS.

Reported this as bug in game. Everyone should do the same.
Spec should matter. Let’s say you’re playing a monk main and can get essences for all three specs. Now let’s say you only unlocked the DPS essences. This means that you didn’t put in the time to unlock the other side specs, which have reduced requirements to unlock after you’ve done it for one spec.
Why should an alt be able to magically unlock the side specs, that you didn’t take the time to unlock on your main, while circumventing the grind in the first place? Even if your main was a DPS class, you haven’t put in the time to unlock the off specs.
It’s not going to happen… Make a tank/dps/healer character, unlock everything you need on them, then unlock them for your alts.
That basically makes the whole system worthless if you have to go regrind the things you already did the grind for, because you main a class that can’t fulfill all three roles.

Should have thought of that earlier. I saw this coming months ago and made sure I did essences grinds on all three roles.
Either way, it doesn’t take long to obtain them. Three heroic clears is all you need to get a spec knocked out for an EP essence. Most of the other grinds are similar in length. You have at least six months to knock it all out. Good luck!
It doesn’t really impact me personally, since I’m just in collector mode now. I’ll just slowly upgrade my alt army dps essences since I don’t need much else.
But I can look at the system and objectively say that it is bad.
I’m sure anyone who got baited into coming back or stuck it out waiting for account wide essences is throwing in the towel by now, and I don’t blame them.

It’s spec agnostic, like crucible.
You have to buy the side spec versions still, which usually cost something, like time gated mana pearls in Nazjatar, or are time gated, such as the 8.3 rep ones where you have to do assaults for three weeks to get your first essence, then it’s reduced after that, but you still have to do the assaults again for other sidespecs.
Pretty sure it’s not, last time I checked there’s 3 different essences unlocked with honor grind:
Tank - Sphere of Suppression
Healer - Artifice of Time
DPS - Blood of the Enemy
Cost is trivial compared to grind required…
You do them anyway to get currency for cloak upgrades and passively get essences for additional specs on your druid. No extra effort required.
My hunter can’t do that… I did as many assaults as you on my hunter, same effort put in, but less rewards received…
I’ve also did enough Eternal Palace runs on my hunter to unlock essences for every role (and more), yet Blizzard didn’t unlock tank/healer essences for me at all.

Like I said, it takes three full heroic EP runs to unlock a new spec on an alt. Not that big of a deal.

Here’s the TEP Tank essence I cannot purchase on my tank alt, despite clearly having the TEP DPS R3 unlocked on my Warlock.

It’s 3 weeks, that’s too much. Considering i’ve already done that grind before so many times on main. It should unlock me essences for all roles on alts…
Call JG Wentworth then and tell them you have a structured essence grind and you need them on ALTS NOW. 877ALTSNOW!
I agree with this, and was expecting to see feedback like this when they announced the system last week. It is not good for people who played pure DPS classes.
I have no idea where people are getting these essences are account wide. It just seemed to me once your earned ‘x’ essences you were given the option to earn that essences on your alt in another manner.
This shouldn’t have happened, but these were the main essences most people were complaining about.
My main is a druid - I have been having to earn the essences on other roles by doing additional content. If you only play a straight dps class, you didn’t have to do additional content. Where is the unfairness? What would be unfair is to now give you the other essences for not doing anything extra.

While the honor essence and M+ essence should be independent per role IMO (it’s technically current content), the Eternal palace not being cross role is a major oversight in my book. it appeared to me that the concept behind the mech/naz rep essences being that way was to avoid players having to do old content. eternal palace IS old content…
How do you figure you were doing different content? The content is exactly the same. The only difference was the AVAILABILITY of the healer and tank essences on pure DPS classes. Even coming from a druid who was actively trying to unlock all role essences, I completely agree with the idea of unlocking tank and healer essences for pure dps classes alts. Ever since 8.2 dropped, a lot of people only played one character. What you’re proposing is a lot of people should get screwed over just by playing a pure dps class.
