TLDR; The new system ONLY unlocks the specific essences you have unlocked on your main. So if you main a pure dps, you have to do the same exact M+, Eternal Palace, 30k Honor, Nyalotha, Horrific Visions, and N’zoth Assault grind AGAIN on a hybrid class capable of getting heal/tank essences.
This is overly punishing to people who mained a pure DPS during the time alts were near impossible to play, as well as being counter productive to the fact this system is supposed to let us grind current content to skip grinds we already did once. Please fix this.
Title. First, thank you for this change. A week an essence is slightly annoying but acceptable. Plus, if you spam battlegrounds and win it looks like you can technically get more?
Anyway, For anyone who hasn’t paid attention, the account-wide essences will only unlock That Specific Role’s rank 3 you’ve already unlocked, with the exception of Mechagon/Nazjatar.
So if you main a pure DPS like me? You’re screwed when it comes to the M+ Essence, the Battleground Honor Essence, and The Eternal Palace Essence. You’ll have to re-do the entire grind over again on a character that has access to healer/tank, get the essence on them, then you can get it on alts. Mechagon/Nazjatar is the exception and what they need to do for these 3. This includes the 8.3 essences, so have fun with a massive horrific vision grind on an alt, you pure DPS!
No one wants to grind 30,000 Honor Through BGs on ANOTHER character, or try to find the SUPER RARE Eternal Palace PuG (otherwise it’s 6 MONTHS of LFR), or try to find M+10 groups with barely any essences on an alt with less gear. This also includes a ~10 month Nyalotha LFR grind, and ~1.5 months of Horrific Visions.
Please make us able to buy any role’s essence on the associated toon if we have rank 3 of any of them on another, like you’re doing with Mechagon/Nazjatar.
Otherwise, you are punishing people who play pure DPS and going against the entire philosophy of this system.
The entire point of this change was to let us do current content to unlock the essences. Yes, M+ and BGs are technically current content, but the grind isn’t. On top of this, someone who mains a tank/heal/dps hybrid like Paladin or Druid will have access to all 3 already, because they naturally gained enough M+ items to unlock for every role since 8.2, and unlocking the BG achievement automatically unlocks the ability to buy all 3 for them.
To add further, Eternal Palace is no longer a current raid and as such, making us go back on alts is silly, the entire point of this is to avoid that. (For anyone curious, I dont even have rank 3 of this because of how ridiculous the grind is for people who don’t raid normal+ regularly, but this change would make me more motivated to grind it out. Hopefully with an increased drop rate 
)
So please, make the role specific essences available on alts if you own at least one of them.
