Please Don't Do This. Seriously. (Covenant-Specific Legendaries in 9.1)

Like everything blizz do, some will be totally useless, some others will be fine and a few will be BIS by such a huge amount you don’t even need to do math to figure out they are BIS.

See, you say that now. But considering the nature of some of these legendaries already (1-minute Convoke the Spirits, much higher uptime on the Warrior Necrolord banner that singlehandedly makes them viable tanks, the extremely powerful Venthyr DK one, etc.) it’s clear that Blizzard is at least attempting to make these extremely desirable.

Collective Anguish is already one of four good Havoc DH PvE legendaries, all of which have very viable niches.

Scenario D: The covenant legendaries end up being garbage

And if scenario D is true (which is highly unlikely given current tuning on some of these), they’re just a colossal waste of development time and resources and shouldn’t exist in the first place.

That’s my guess :frowning:

Sounds like a great idea to me, sorry you hate fun.

We’ll see how much fun you have when and if you have to grind all the way back up to Renown 80 because Necrolord randomly becomes good thanks to one of these legendaries.

I’m glad that Blizzard has found a way to make the covenant system more punishing by binding legendaries to them now. The effort required to swap just exponentially got worse.

Wanna know something funny? It’s too late. It’s going live and it doesn’t matter how much negative feedback Blizzard gets, they aren’t going to change it because PTR is too late in the development cycle to completely remove legendaries. The best we can hope for is that over this PTR cycle they somehow balance 4 legendaries per 3 specs and 3 separate endgame paths for 12 classes for a total of 432 situations. If a SINGLE one of these is OP it’s a failure.

Well to be fair, they’ve done a great job at Balance in this xpac.

Fact the ripcord never existed.

Since when did they start listening to you guys ? Oh wait… get ready to switch covenants bis players/lego collectors :smiling_imp:

Are you implying that only min/maxers are allowed to care about their damage output? You don’t have to be a world first or MDI player to want to get the best out of your character. Congratulations if that doesn’t matter to you, but it clearly does to a lot of players, not just the “1% min/maxing lobby gamers.”

Not only do you have to do long quests over two resets, but now you have to spend 50k gold and grind hours in Torghast on top of it!

I agree that many players care too much about the 1% min/max, but Covenants go beyond that.

When you’re approaching the skill-cap of yourself, your friends and your guild (be that a +15 keys, Heroic CN, M CN, 2k PvP rating etc etc) you’re gimping yourself if you don’t play somewhat optimally… or more importantly, you’re gimping your team. I’ve only cleared CN on Heroic, but now that it’s well and truly on farm, we still have nights where we need to ask people to step out because we have too many Alts/Social carries in the group and with Flex scaling, can’t do enough DPS to transition P3 before the next set of adds spawn. Once we remove a few Alts with Mains, or maybe get a few socials to sit, we smash it.

The point im making, is for players who just chill in easy content, Covenants don’t really matter. But as you get to the Limit of your groups abilities, having too many Carries is the difference between a Kill and a Wipe, and some Covenant/Lego Combo’s are so far out of balance for some classes/specs, it makes a sizeable difference. Especially if you’re entire group is sub-optimal.

Mechanically a lot of Covenant abilities are flawed because they don’t synergise with your spec and thus don’t scale. For some classes, their BiS Covenants is F Tier for their other spec(s).

I wish it was only 1% because if it was, this H Pally would be Night Fae. But as it stands today, I cannot even conceive the notion of healing +15 Keys or higher without Divine Toll (or maybe Ashen Hallow).

it wouldnt be that bad if things were stable but they mess with things all the time. would suck to be forced to change covenant because they sucked at balancing and some legendary becomes the go to -.-

they could flip some numbers and force everyone to work on a new covenant/legendary just for metrics … spooky.

The way this forum talks about the game, the this expansion and the last were a complete waste of developer time and resources. So, par for the course I guess?

Probably because Blizzard’s response to “This system is terrible” is “We understand you don’t like the system, so we’re adding more complicated crap to it to make it more fun!”

Kind of makes me wonder if all these crazy systems actually take less time and money than actual game content. Why else would they keep doing it?
