I feel like there are multiple motivations for people who play progressively harder content.
At some point gear becomes a price of entry and stops being the objective of your game time.
If you are high ranked PvP, running +20 m+ content or mythic raiding, chances are high that leaderboards mean more to you than gear.
However below the top end, gear is the only reward as there is little leaderboard motivation.
If this is true the nature of gearing should change at higher levels to make specific gearing options less grind reliant (e.g. badges or points to alter or buy specific gear), while at the lower end gear can be less deterministic and have a “bonus” feel to it.
If they decided to cater to the Mythic + croud and went screw the casuals guess what . They would be shooting themselves in the foot.
Most of the income comes from casuals not the mythic + crowd. It’s all those filthy casuals buying subs that gives them the funds to make M+ content for a small group of players.
As for progress I have no problem with it but should those of us that don’t like Mythic + or don’t have time or maybe age has slowed us down a little have the game we have loved to play for years be completely pushed in a direction that drives us away?
Oh and if you consider 52 old then yes but I was more of the cassette tape sony walkman era . It was and still even is my generation that are running these companies.
What I’m not ok with is if it drops to heroic ilevel next season, and all things are pointing to this. We can wait in this though as we need more information.
What I was bringing up in the OP was that by scraping titanforging it’s effecting the people who run mythic + for end game.
When changing systems that have been in place for multiple years they need to keep in mind each part of the player base that are affected by these heavy handed changes. This one being the mythic + community that will be affected the most.
Yes it’s not 100% yet but here is why it’s leaning to that.
The reason your item in your chest is higher than standard mythic + static ilevel (430) is because it’s titanforged. If they remove TF from the game, why would your mythic + chest be any higher than the static loot from that content?
No, the base level of a +10 and above chest in the current season is 440… regardless of small green text that says “Titanforged”. Items from that chest can not be produced lower than the base ilvl.
This design point, regardless of TF, has shown not the slightest indication of changing.
Because it was designed that way. The base ilvl of the weekly chest is intentionally higher than the base ilvl of the content which produces it at every level. Whether we are talking about the rewards from a +2 or a +15 this remains consistent.
The same is true of the PvP weekly chest, though it lacks the “titanforged” small green text, items from a 2.1k weekly chest are 440 base ilvl.
I’ll take your points and wait for this to be confirmed before bringing it up again.
I stand by my OP that removing TF, for better or worse, will hurt people that focus purely on mythic + and should be considered when changing such deep implanted systems.
I think they are considering corrupted gear to be like benthic gear in which ilvl doesn’t matter. We may have to wait and see. I could be horribly wrong and they are implementing this with zero consideration for the mythic+ community.
