Please do not remove Nat Pagle

Only someone who hasn’t experienced actual tyranny would say this about a freaking video game.

I take your point, but as a simulation theorist, I would argue that all of life is

Activision/Blizzard exist to make money, nothing more, nothing less. That’s their directive by having shareholders and stakeholders and being listed on the stock market.

This is their game, not ours, even if they say it is. We don’t make decisions and complaints here are more closely related to screaming into the wind than affecting change.

If this company, which isn’t mine or yours, decides to do something in THEIR interest, and don’t mistake this, it’s in their interest to remove names, then they will. Threads on GD won’t change it.

Having said all of that, I would love to see a full list of all NPCs and places/things that are somehow related to a person who worked at Blizzard in the past. Can’t imagine them renaming and replacing like hundreds or thousands of things but who knows.

I find it amusing

People and their little complaints and companies catering to them makes me ugly laugh

The main character erases from the media AT THE BEHEST OF THE GOVERNMENT not within the confines of a private enterprise.

Blizzard censoring itself is not 1984. Blizzard is not government.

Social consequence to speech is also not 1984, as social consequences are not enforced or even caused by government.

1984 was about governmental control over every aspect of a citizens life, not about a private entity deciding to remove an NPC from a video game because the person that NPC is named for was accused of sexual harassment

It’s good to know there are people in this world willing to let fascism get its foot in the door.

Standard blizzard OVER reaction. THEY commit the crime, our game suffers the price.

yeah…youre right…1984 is more like when the US government ‘helps’ Facebook decide what posts it wants removed/censored…oh wait

Freedom of speech means freedom of association.

Which means a private entity can freely decide whom they associate or disassociate with.

Which means a private entity can add or remove people from their premises and their products at will.

If you do not allow them to do that, you violate their freedom of speech.

Only those named after employees who were named as abusing female employees, if Pat was not one of them then I think his character should be fine.

Pretty much. But, when the fascists said “a private entity should be able to add or remove people from their premises and their products at will” they were talking about a different group of people.

It’s just a different coat of paint.

I didn’t say it about the video game. My how people twist your words here.

munches popcorn
Keep going, everyone.

Name all NPCs NPC 1 NPC 2 NPC 3 etc.

Now I want popcorn, and I happen to have a bag of Orville Redenbacher’s Movie Theater Butter Flavored Microwave Popping Corn just sitting there on my kitchen counter.

This is happening now, all thanks to you.

Hmmmmmmmmmm

He knows what he did…

I dont, but he does

I doubt it. He was almost certainly drunk.

You’re going way overboard with your comparison here. In 1984, the state controlled all means of media and historical record, that is why Winston’s realization holding that scrap of paper was so profound; he had actual, physical proof that they were lying. It was the ONLY proof.

With what is going on with WoW, game devs are just removing the names from within the video game. You can still read about Afrasiabi, McCree, and LeCraft literally everywhere else on the internet. Who they were, why they were fired, etc…

What if Blizzard removed them from real life and it was as though they never existed?

That would be spooky.
