Please blacklist covid/corona from player names

Guys, its a coping mechanism, its okay! When I laugh at a funeral and make bad jokes at the expense od the deceased in front of his family, its okay.

Look, many clinical studies make statements with many caveats.
Every coping mechanism is meant to help cope.
Good or bad is contextual. Using the whole “study proves” statement doesnt create universal acceptance outside of an extreme minority of cases.

I will keep my fingers crossed for you! Personally, I already know a handful of people that have come down with it. It’s a scary thing to know that 5% of people won’t survive it. 5% might sound small, but that’s 1:20 that will die from it. You know that movie theater you sat in with a hundred people in it? Five of them will die from covid19 or the pneumonia that usually accompanies it.

Getting back on topic, these types of meme names shouldn’t be allowed and if Blizzard continues to allow them, after having it brought to their attention, then shame on them.

Yeah I saw one alliance player on Daggerspine in the Outland, named himself Chinesevirus and I whisper to him and told him that is a horrible stupid name you have there then I ignored him.

Some players are really messed up in the head or simply like the CCP trying to harass players in the game.

But this can be said of much of our language. You have never heard anyone use the term “plague” when discussing something to over-emphasize using sarcasm? You know the plague has killed over 25 million people.

I mean most of the Death Knight spell list would be banned. Heck … wait a sec… “Death” Knight - you know Death has killed every one in our history… UH OH

Damn girl are you supplementary to an acute angle? Because you’re being obtuse

Don’t be offensive, didn’t you know being obtuse has killed people? (You could argue that many of the American deaths to COVID are because our leaders are obtuse).

I will never understand why people give words so much power over them. It’a a word, forget it and move on.

yes, we can defeat bad guys with hugs, slam poetry and interpretive dance instead

I think this is the crux of the issue. For many issues, perhaps. We either fail to understand or deny ourselves the ability to see things from another’s perspectives. Maybe we are too worried seeing things another way would challenge our long-held understandings and force us to reorganize our thoughts?

It’s definitely easy for me to not challenge my mental status quo.

And I’m not pointing you out of a crowd, Warp. You just make a good point for me to pontificate on.

You basically want to stifle free speech and people having a laugh at a terrible situation? Yeah no dude.

It’s a freakin word, no one but you gives it power, that’s why people use it. Ignore the person and they will go away, let them get a rise out of you and they will never stop.

And by you I mean the person the word is said to, not you personally.

I agree that’s it a just a word. But the same token, if it’s just a word, what’s wrong with getting rid of it? (My rebuttal would be that getting rid of a word is censorship and bad, and I agree, but then, to me, that acknowledges the importance of words).

And I’m not trying to be contrarian. This is a good discussion to me.

Also, definitely agree on the letting them get a rise out of you part. I just wish there was responsibility on both sides: the listener to thicken the skin, and the sender to increase their empathy.

Because we would be down to grunting or pointing, because all it takes is some one to be offended and it’s gone, you would never be able to talk again. The word “the” offends me never say it again. And after a while the grunting and hand gestures would be gone too, that "finger’ being used offends me.

True. It would defeat the purpose of language at all. At that point, we’d need to figure out why someone was getting offended, actually try to communicate with each other and not just say things.

everything

Offence is perception. And let’s not ignore the fact a whole lot of moralising brigands like to take offence on behalf of others because they think it makes them a better person.

How can I give this more than one like?

Corona has other meanings than this or any other virus ya know:

Definition of corona

(Entry 1 of 2)

1 : the projecting part of a classic cornice

2 : something suggesting a crown: such as

aplural coronae\ kə-ˈrō-(ˌ)nē \ also coronas

(1) : a usually colored circle often seen around and close to a luminous body (such as the sun or moon) caused by diffraction produced by suspended droplets or occasionally particles of dust

(2) : the tenuous outermost part of the atmosphere of a star (such as the sun)

(3) : a circle of light made by the apparent convergence of the streamers of the aurora borealis

b : the upper portion of a bodily part (such as a tooth or the skull)

c : an appendage or series of united appendages on the inner side of the corolla in some flowers (such as the daffodil, jonquil, or milkweed)

d : a faint glow adjacent to the surface of an electrical conductor at high voltage

Agreed.

And perception is reality. My point is that humans should have a shared responsibility for both what they say and what they do when they hear something they don’t like. Now, offending someone isn’t necessarily a bad thing - especially when speaking an objective/factual truth to lies. But to know the difference between fact an opinion is something else entirely, something rational creatures should espouse to knowing.

Winnie the Flu? Is that you? Sound like it came from communist China.

Or maybe plot twist:
