My guild will soon sit me if I continue as Frost. I have already invested in the Rank 3 Frost Legendary and also chose a Frost Covenant. The answer is clear to me which is to respec Fire. Pretty much all other Mages in our raid did. But at this point, I will be behind on the Fire Legendary and I will need to change my Covenant halfway through the Campaign. The problem that Frost is facing now could be helped by Blizzard if they remove player power from Covenant choices, provide Legendary refund, buff Frost or change the fights to reduce movement.
Fire which excels in all areas(Movement, AOE, Cleave, Single Target, PVP, Burst) relative to Frost. I keep telling my friends that Blizzard will definitely buff Frost but how long can I survive before the buff comes in or the raid sits me.

Iām sorry to say that changing the covenant is not a good idea. The catch-up mechanic is not working as advertised. Iām 5 renown levels behind the cap and I did everything you can imagine, all mythics, everything. I changed last week. So if itās a small improvement donāt do it.
Thereās also the legendary issue that you will be always behind. Specially from Frost to Fire since Frost has 2 legendaries to build one for AoE and another for single target. So switching to Fire is also a big issue in which you will be way behind those that decided to go Fire in the beginning.
And that is with NO REAL WARRANTY that you will be doing a lot better. To be honest I havenāt seen Fire doing so much better.

And here as a new player I was wondering why I was being declined for random M0s.
What I find most insulting in this design is that I cannot finish mobs properly, what am I supposed to do, cast 5 frostbolts to finish a mob with a measly 2k HP?

Exactly we are pawned by mobs that have 9k hp with auto-hits that do more than a frostbolt.
If you get swarmed by more than 2 you better run for your life. If the mob has more than 20k hp you should pop all your CDs and TimeWarp and you may be able to finish it off (lol ok Iām kinda exagerating on that last one, as you may not need to use Time Warp).

From what I have experienced you will catch up eventually but not in one day. Since I swapped to NF every calling has given me a renown level. Thats 1 a day until youre caught up.
I hate this whole system though, its the dumbest stuff ever and I bet they will change it in 9.1. Swapping specs is so punishing, AND they cant balance the specs to all at least be competitive.

The accumulated animas in the reservoir ?
The companions for the table ?
Conduits obtained ?
All my legendary powers ?

sigh hoping to ride this out as I hate fires gameplay, however my raid wonāt take me to mythic unless I respec and the thought of losing all my anima/companions/renown just makes me not want to play

Decided to main frost mage in SL but with its completely trash DPS in mythic plus and raids, I am cancelling my sub! Donāt have time or energy to reroll a brand new char and fire/arcane just bore me. This was going to be last expansion anyway just wanted to go out with the spec that I started with in TBC.
Thanks for making quitting so much easier!

This is kind of where I am with it. I am too entrenched and have too little time to either shift gears with a new spec or start a new character, so Iām going to weather the storm. Iām not playing competitively so Iām going to suffer through it.

Agreed. I would never claim to be the ābest in my fieldā but when Iām level 60/iLvl 150, properly buffed and following the designated max DPS rotation yet badly lagging other DPS below iLvl 105 I begin to wonder if this spec is worth it and maybe change to Fireā¦

You get actionable guidance when you mention how youāre playing or provide videos for critique. All I remember is that the guy I was replying to was sub 1500 and complaining about Frost in PvP.
Sub 1500 means thereās a lot to improve. Go watch some skillcapped videos. Why should I be the one to tell him what to do when I happily go out and do my own research. Iām not the one here complaining. I play frost in arena with healers and spell cleaves. Iāve gotten to 1800 in 3s before tanking (with RL friends running tripple dps) and am waiting on my 2s priest to hop on tonight to get 1800 there too. Yes. As a frost mage. Iām still bad, but not as bad as everyone below 1500 and whining that itās unplayable.

Being unwilling to accept that you are the reason youāre low mmr = 0 room for improvement.
Blizzard doesnāt care about frost people

I donāt think that is the case. There may be considerations that most players are unaware of that may prevent Blizzard from implementing what playerās see as an easy fix. I for one hope this is not the case as I am looking at having to respec to fire after the reset since frost is basically in the gutter in terms of performance. I am not looking forward to the resources I and my guild have to spend just for that respec.
Frost is fine in m+ with glacial fragments. Youāre not going to top the meters with an equally skilled/geared DK or boomy or spriest or anything, but the disparity is less than what we see in raid. People were timing 15s as frost on the first week on m+. Iāve pugged my way to just under 900 io as frost, and Iāve only been kicked because of spec once. If youāre using your blocks and alter correctly, your healer will love you, very few other dps specs have such powerful defensives, and completely immuning damage or altering big burst can be the difference between your healer getting stretched too far and someone dying or everyone living.
Donāt get me wrong, iāve been all over these forums asking for frost buffs, but you can do just fine in m+ unless youāre pushing in the top 1% of players.
A dps spec should never be in the proverbial gutter for raiding as much as Frost Mage, Fury Warrior, and Assassination Rogue currently are. Thereās absolutely zero excuse. Once more, in an expansion full of borrowed power and resource limited legendaries to craft per spec, itās not simply just a matter of ālet me change to fire and see if itās betterā. No, you have to completely go out of your way to build towards a new spec if you want to optimize it in various and tedious ways. So while you may give Blizzard the benefit of the doubt on āconsiderationsā, I find it absurd they canāt just dial back some of the overnerfs they made in beta. Presumably the aura nerf at the very least and the ice lance 15% talent nerf.

I had rolled Frost as the preliminary information indicated frost was a frontrunner. Evidently with the nerf bat after nerf bat between Beta/PTR and live itās now absolutely trash. The fact I HAVE to reroll covenant and lose my legendary because of ābalanceā changes so far in one direction is awful.

Iāve wasted so much time and effort gearing for frost that i had to make a 3rd legendary (fire helm) not to mention countless runs of M and M+ dungeons for crit/haste gear just to be absolute garbage. Iām not even feeling fire even though its āokayā that I am strongly considering re-rolling or just taking a break and saying forget it.
