If you want server notifications, use the add-on deathlog, it is far better than anything Blizzard would provide as it even provides some statistics on how those using the app have died. The HC add-on has it embedded, so you plan to continue using it, you don’t need to download deathlog.
i’d love to see that added.
I just finished Westfall again on a test character and I gotta say for Warriors do not recommend. Basically go to any other zone lol
Horde has a couple of rough spots but those Defias casters have got to have the highest kill count of any mobs in that level range
Wait, there’s no server announcement when someone dies?
LOL, could they half-a$$ this any more than they are?
By the way, they’re not even getting that. Death = transfer to another server. You don’t even lose your character.
yeah it’s a real shame
such baby mode
i’ll try not to think about it
I mean blizzard could just incorporate the addon just like they have for tons of others over the years.
The problem i see with server announcements on death is there would probably be too much spam on launch. Lots of people with no hc exp are going to die a lot.
the addon already solved that problem with a toggle for what minimum level you want to hear deaths for.
the real problem is people somehow hacking the HC death report channel to spam their twitch accounts or whatever. that was the main problem the addon devs had to deal with, and I doubt blizzard is capable of doing much better ![]()
Agreed. Flying mechanostriders say hello!
You just don’t enable the message for characters under a certain level. Let’s say…level 10. That’s what Turtle does, or so I hear.
But it is indeed a lot to expect the Classic team to compete with what a private server can pull off.
With a limited development team though, it seems a waste to put any effort into something like death messages when an add-on can do just as good or better, and where they might be able to put resources into something an add-on can’t do.
Death announcements are cool, but should only be like the top 50-100 players and/or level 60s. It’s an entertaining community thing, and both a prestige thing and comedy if you’re announced because it means you were one of the top players but also you died and have to start over. They do this in POE (admittedly a different genre) and it’s fun. It’d be funny also to see raid/dungeon wipes with 20 announcements all at once. Stuff like this builds community by creating entertaining events that people can remember and talk about, and plays into the ethos of hardcore of celebrating people who have achieved a lot, but also laughing about people dying and taking the edge off.
What a weird way to say the Classic team can’t manage what a bunch of amateurs do with an add-on. It’s a server death message. They’re not splitting the atom.
Just have it apply only to characters above a certain level. And maybe give players the option to disable seeing the messages if it bothers them.
But like every other aspect of Classic, Blizz is putting the minimum time and effort into this server. Their development time goes into making deluxe editions, boosts, the token, etc. If they can’t monetize it, they don’t care.
I don’t think it’s that they can’t manage it, it’s more if you look at priorities, something like this would seem extremely low on the list compared to other things that they might do. I mean this is the perfect kind of thing for an add-on so why put actual dev resources into it?
This would be a really cool feature, but it would be an extra feature. Like everyone else said, the main focus is making sure people can HC without issues
Once that task is done, and depending on the demand of HC, they will add the fancy features but I wouldn’t expect it
The addon forces SSF play. They are asking for death messages while playing the server rules. This solution doesn’t cut it.
No the “Deathlog” add-on does not force the SSF play style, while it was incorporated into the “Hardcore” add-on as a way to do death messages, the actual “Deathlog” add-on does far more and has all kinds of interesting functionality such as telling you what the most dangerous mobs are, providing heat maps, and allowing you to see data around deaths.
Even if you use the Hardcore add-on I would still recommend the “Deathlog” add-on as it is actually has some interesting reports that you can look at based on the death information.
Thanks for the clarification. So, this can be downloaded separately?
Yes, it can be downloaded separately. I know it’s available on Curse as Deathlog, and assume it’s available on other add-on sites as well. Personally I turned off the heat maps, as I found them a bit annoying. It also has a small window so you can see all the deaths, its really amazing how many people die under level ten.
A lot of the deaths under 10 in Teldrassil occur from them going for the achievement for killing Lord Melenas. That one is actually tough.
I’ll look into that deathlog, sounds good.
