Status. I comepletes a challenge when it was relevant. A limited time event.
You didn’t.
I should be able to celebrate that with rewards you don’t have.
Let’s just give the 500 pound obese man who can barely walk the Olympic gold medal for long jump. It doesn’t matter that someone worked hard to get something from a limited time event to win the gold. The fat guy will feel left out if he doesn’t get the gold medal too!
I already have them though, I want them back as a feature for various reason. The big ones are, I know folks who came back in bfa or shadowlands who missed out, I have alts that I made as allied races after legion that supplanted my legion characters that did the mage tower but those alts can’t unlock recolors for some unholy reason, and also it opens up other time locked gear for consideration.
Most importantly though its a reason for people to come back to the game, if blizzard insists on putting the best rewards behind expansion limited content people are less inclined to come back to the game for fear of missing out. I already have to deal with being alliance on a dead server group and would like the game a little livelier.
I mean plenty of them have lol. Welcome to the shadowlands where subs go to die. Maybe blizzard should open up the game a bit, possibly by not removing content and rewards so people can dig through the expansions they haven’t played before. If old mage tower is so prestigious I guess they can give me and the rest a title when they bring the weapons back. How about the “the towering”?
Literally they brought the mage tower back because people complained about “content” being removed and that they wanted the “challenge” back. Blizzard said here’s your content but with new rewards. And people immediately complained which just confirms what we always knew.
People could give a rats about the challenge. It’s the weapons.
Actually I don’t mind this. Make it 0.01% drop chance like mythic mounts. Make it something the person can only do once a day during legion time walking.
It shouldn’t be a guaranteed handout. I’d be happy with this compromise.
What does it matter to you? If you see someone standing next to you, do you check their transmogs, achievement history, mount collections, etc.? Or is that just a hot-air sentiment without any actually experience of situations in the game?
It was up regularly and predictably for a few months shy of a year and a half. And of particular relevance to the OP, it was up permanently in its closing weeks.
It’s consistent with what they do for mythic raid mounts. And you only get a chance once a week per toon to get the mount.
That’s why I’ve said you get one chance a day during the event (because it’s not always up) to give roughly the same amount of attempts.
A 0.01% drop chance would be acceptable, it would keep mage tower time walking relevant for longer. It would require players to perform at a higher level more often to succeed and defeat the encounter. And given it’s timewalking you will always get brought down to the expansions level meaning you can’t out gear and outlevel it.
If it come back I would support it being done like this.
No cake walk over geared farming. No guaranteed reward (except for the new set).
Or they could just make content and rewards that are cool and fun enough that people want to do them regardless of whether they are limited time or not. Imagine that.
So, if you’re fine with the mythic raid idea, then 0.01 drop rate would not line up with that so well.
Mythic raid is effectively a 10% drop (2 drops per 20-man group) during the current xpac. After the next xpac launches, the drop rate gets nerfed to 1% - cut by 10x.
Mage Tower was 100%. Cut it by 10x and we end up at a 10% drop rate.
I’m torn on this. On the one hand I see it as an acceptable balance. On the other hand, the TW MT difficulty is certainly harder than 7.3 MT. With that said, having a reasonable avenue to work towards obtaining the appearances - I’d take a 10% drop over nothing any day of the week.
I still prefer my other solutions I posted previously on the forums. One of them is making MT into two difficulties- a normal mode to unlock the armor sets (the difficulty it is now), and a heroic mode to unlock the old weapon sets (harder difficulty). With this setup, people who already have the weapon appearances can just do normal to get their armor sets and not worry about the heroic mode.
Another solution was to lock a 36-appearance ensemble behind the 36-challenge Feat of Strength. This, again is a goal that can be worked towards over time, and it’s an “all or nothing” approach, but it definitely requires a challenge to be completed to get there.
However, a lowered drop rate that allows targeting of appearances could be useful too and it’s better than nothing as it allows goals to be worked towards.
