Player housing

I also played Dark Age of Camelot, and yes their housing system was incredible.

EVERYTHING that people suggest for WoW housing, was there in DAoC housing, and that was over 20 years ago.

Also… the player housing zones were ghost towns a month after being introduced.

I just started playing but I want one :sob:
Im too poor lol

I love my ship though

Source? lol

Devs said they can’t/won’t based on engine limitations.

They have tried, and the Garrisons were the ‘best’ thing we had out of that, still bad though lol.

WildStar is probably the MMO with the best player housing I’ve ever seen.

I wish WoW would give us a personal dungeon/cave, and we could put up paintings we find in the world, decorate it with stools, put a unique campfire in the middle.

I just want my very own hovel, lol. A place to put my feet up and dry out my gunpowder.

Players themselves have even come up with some good ideas, we never got them though.

Player Housing is one of those things that’s been asked for since Vanilla lol, and it’s been almost 20 years now.

The last part from 2022 says.
" It is still on Blizzard’s radar as of 2022 and stated that it would require a major engine upgrade itself to build what it deserves to be like instead of using the Garrison plot placements and limited customizations with that."

The core issue is how WoW interacts with objects. You can’t even drop anything on the ground, in WoW.

DAoC, AC, UO, modern building survival games like Subnautica and The Forest… you can drop stuff on the ground, in them. And then pick it up.

Can’t do that in WoW.

Can’t do that in ESO either…no issues with player housing there.

Can’t do that in FFXIV either…no issues with player housing, player mansions, friggin ENTIRE PLAYER ISLANDS.

No more excuses.

GIVE US PROPER PLAYER HOUSING IN 2024 BLIZZ! Screw the damn raid tiers already.

WoD was almost 10 years ago, now.

And that’s the last time they did anything with player housing.

I certainly thought they were done with it, but TIL they still want to create housing in some form, in WoW.

It would have to be a major expansion feature to get the attention it needs to engage players, not like the Garrison was.

Maybe after Dragonflight, or the expansion after that?

Ion said it would take multiple expansions of skipped features to free up the time to recode the engine.

None of that is a source for your comment.

I think that’s why I latched onto the belief of ‘never’ due to engine limitations.

They haven’t showed us anything solid yet, that the technology has moved on past Garrisons, so I’d certainly believe it was left for dead.

It’s been 10 years, lol.

I’m fine with that. But what he said was multiple expansions he said nothing about skipped features.

While dedicated HOW MUCH TIME to one-time systems? How much time to one-time megadungeons?? How much time to FOMO content??? How much time to zones that lose their relevance within a few weeks?!?!?! HOW MUCH TIME BREWA?

I’m OK if an entire YEAR is dedicated just to get a proper form of player housing that ties in the entire WORLD of warcraft together and gives us a MEANINGFUL reason to go out and venture into it again. To CRAFT again. To farm NODES again. All out in the world. etc. etc.

There is a reason why games like Palia are so highly anticipated rn.

It’s not worth doing, is the thing.

Even if they do it, 2/3 of the people who clamor for housing are going to deem it unacceptable.

Everyone who says “I want player housing” seems to think THEIR version of it is what will be implemented.

Odds are, it won’t.

Let’s look at it on a basic “where am I?” scenario. There are 3 ways to do it:

  1. Neighborhood zoning with houses. (DAoC-style)
  2. Open world plots (UO, AC, SWG-style)
  3. Everyone’s house overlaps, like a bunch of TARDISes (garrison-style)

They do 1… people who wanted the other 2 will deem it UNACCEPTABLE.

There’s just no way Blizzard can win, on this. Which makes it not worth the herculean investment it would require.

I’ll just use time as a source, if they were working on it, you’d think we’d have something by now. 10 years ago, that was the last time we had anything in regards to personal housing.

There’s also this. They are basically telling us, IF they are working on it, that it’s going to be a massive undertaking.

Again, it’s been 10 years. I think I can be forgiven in thinking we’d never get our housing.

So you have no source. Got it.

I’ve read the article interview with Ion. I still cannot find where he said anything about recoding the engine for player housing. That doesn’t even make sense.

In your opinion.

Those are built using deveopment tools that already exist. Freeform housing would require rewriting the game’s code from scratch.

And god only knows what bugs will creep in, if they do that.

In Blizzard’s opinion.
