Player Housing: WoW vs FF14

True but just saying “anime” didn’t meet the character requirement. :stuck_out_tongue:

The two games arent even in the same MMO genre. Quit comparing them. The lead dev of FFXIV says that he really likes World of Warcraft and that he believes the two can exist without taking each others subs.

Prefer undead kitty over that :smile_cat:

This is honestly a fair assessment to make, but I would posit that even if FFXIV isn’t as good as the player base says it is, what matters is that it’s the game they want it to be.

Square Enix makes FFXIV for FFXIV players. Blizzard makes WoW for shareholders. I think Blizzard would do well to make a game for their player base instead of quotas.

It’s not an anime game until I see an “OWO” emote or I can buy/collect waifus

Competition of who has the most amount of spaghetti code. Ff14 has player housing but WoW has transmog and collectible tabs.

Yeah, but the multiplayer ‘requirement’ is about as forced as doing normal dungeons or LFR. Single-player systems get far more focus in FF than they do in WoW (and vice-versa for WoW), which was what I was really saying.

Trust mode is kinda evidence of this, if we’re being honest. WoW’s probably never going to have a system like that, because it’s solo-focused which WoW doesn’t really prioritize.

Remember when they said NFTs were cool and they had to walk it back immediately because everyone said it was stupid?

Blizzard straight up said “Nah fam, we good over here.”

Both companies want your money. :b

Transmog is one of the major features in FFXIV, to the degree that it comprises most of the endgame for some people.

Yeah, I don’t really deny that FFXIV has more of a single player focus. This is made clear by how extensive their main scenario questline is, but I still think it focuses as frequently on multiplayer, is what I’m trying to say. Most of the things they add at the endgame are multiplayer-centric beyond the main story quests.

That’s true but the interface for transmog in WoW is a lot friendlier than the glamour system in FF14. I would kill to have the WoW system in FF.

FF14’s Glamor System is severely limited compared to WoW’s transmog system.

I mean, let’s be clear here, I do not think Square Enix is our best friend, but there is no denying that FFXIV is designed around what FFXIV players want. I can’t really say the same for WoW. Whether or not Square Enix will infiltrate the game with predatory monetization schemes is yet to be determined. I can’t really speak about the future, only now. And right now, FFXIV is a game for its players.

By what measure? I would agree that it’s unintuitive but it’s ultimately the same thing. I would argue that it’s just slightly more customizable due to the fact that you can dye your gear in FFXIV.

To speak about the future a bit, they’re investing in companies that work within a blockchain, and they’re developing strategies for “NFT experiences.”

This is according to their FY22 earning’s report. (Pages 28/29/30)

This probably won’t hold water in the future, as interest in NFTs are imploding upon itself. So they’re either going to develop into a dead environment, or they’re gonna pull out sooner or later.

Transmog is effectively unlimited whereas Glamour will only allow the use of a select amount.

In essence, the best example that can be given is Warlock Cataclysm talent vs BLM Flare/Fire 4

This is what I was trying to say. WoW has a much better system

My guess is that they will likely pull out, but even so, it doesn’t change anything about what I said with regards to FFXIV being developed for the players.

And to be honest with you, even if they did buckle down on NFTs, I’m not entirely convinced that they would do anything with them in FFXIV. While I can’t speak directly to the corporate entity that is Square Enix, I don’t think Yoshi P would simply let that happen. Yoshi P is often credited with saving Square Enix as a company after the disaster of FFXIV’s 1.0 release, and it’s made very clear that he is an asset to them considering he was chosen to lead FFXVI’s development, among other creative freedoms granted to him.

I won’t say never, because corporations are unpredictable and blinded when it comes to money and greed, but it certainly doesn’t seem likely.

Transmog is limited in WoW, too. You can’t cross any transmogs between classes (and last I played, you weren’t able to cross transmogs for spec-specific gear like artifact gear), and you have to be the appropriate level of that gear in order to transmog it.

I also wouldn’t call FFXIV’s transmog “severely” limited.

And also the ranch on Halfhill.

Honestly, both could have been used as a way to introduce player housing but for some reason Blizz decided to just let them play a part in their respective expansions before leaving them in the dust.

Unless they allocated a small team to actually oversee player housing so that it’s relevant outside of an expansion WoW will never have the feature.

Those are both limitations in FF14 but FF14 has the additional restriction of glamour dresser space, probably the largest restriction.

I can only hold 400 item appearances at once shared among all my classes. In WoW, I have every appearance I’ve ever seen. 400 items goes by real quick when you’re accounting for every slot and every class.

That’s fair. I’ll rescind that argument then.

However, the point that was made was that WoW has transmog. Ultimately, the only thing I was pointing out was that FFXIV does, as well, and is a much larger focal point for FFXIV than transmog is for WoW. Despite its limitations, I still think my point applies.

I do like talking about ff14. Seems like WoW has hit a bit of a content drought
