Would really appreciate the OP’s suggestions to housing!
Every game that I have had that has player housing of some kind has had some kind of public directory. SWTOR, FFXIV, and EQ2. I fully support this.

Hold on, let me sign on to this with my void-infused ink. If you need a good idea of what a public directory should look like go peak at SWTOR.

As someone who has roleplayed in a good bit of games and even ran a venue in FFXIV for a few years. I must say that I always came back to wows RP. There was something special about finding RP in the open world or seeing everyone around you. Finding a inn out in the world leveling and seeing people inside having a good time drinking together. It added so much to the world that no other mmo has had. I dont mind player housing and lets be honest here, they wont announce a date for it unless its feature complete or close to it. Would be neat to see some of this stuff added but we dont even know what there doing yet. This stuff could already be on there list of features. Though I will say, I really dont want this game to became a instanced RP game where everyone just roleplays in there homes leaving the rest of the world feeling empty and dry like most other servers in the game or other mmos. Over all, not bad ideas, let hope that the blizzard team has already put them in before they announced the date.

I would really love a feature like this as well. One of my favorite things to do with my SWTOR Stronghold was build a place up to serve as a public space or event setting, and list it for others to come to and visit. It was also a lot of fun to go to other people’s strongholds and see how they had decorated their spaces.

I support this!
I totally support this!
I think so too. I think that there will be planned patches with additional features to housing over several years, we won’t see the final product on the first day. And I think that, if we had a way, for the designers to hear feedback and our wishlists.
Friendly neighborhood antagonist here. Supported. <3
I’m on board with what my guild leader is saying. We don’t need private spaces, that’d mean reduced numbers of open world Rp and make areas feel dead. Having a listing be public would fix that and allow more organic Rp to happen.
Sincerely,

I absolutely love this idea! Let’s keep the RP scene alive while enjoying this awesome upcoming feature!

I wholeheartedly support this!
EQ2 did have excellent housing - until they implemented auction houses, travel bells and basically anything else you needed to play the game into guild housing. Not only did the RP scene completely die, the general open world seeing other players around in towns did too. There was no need to leave your giant guild house, so people just didn’t.
There is reason to be cautious about large scale player housing. WoW is one of the only MMOs left with at least a single server with vibrant, open world, walk up RP and it is because we can’t all hide away in our private corners. Once we start building massive, high population little private RP towns we’ll go the same way as the ESO roleplay community did - dead.
In addition, a warlock with the locksmith class can install a lock on your player housing door, which makes players type in a password before entering (unless in group with homeowner). And druids with the Housesitter class can feed and water your 1362 pets while you are away.
Housing promises to either make or break a lot of hearts and having the option to make some player houses public spaces will not only throw a tank of gas on the ole creative bonfire as people scramble to make the most fun and immersive taverns, bars, spas, etc but would also drive player engagement with this upcoming feature.
In literally every other game that’s had housing where I have visited a nicely established space, I have seen something and decided I wanted something similar in my own home which devolves into grinding content or professions or even making in-game purchases to get those things.
SWTOR did this really well because the housing was varried and if you wanted to visit somebody’s house you could just right click on them and travel to their apartment. You could choose their apartment from a housing terminal. Or, they could offer you a Key to their apartment so it would appear in your own housing screen to travel to. This could be a good space to expand the social circles in as well, if permissions could be looped into that.
I believe the ideas herein would be an excellent addition to the long awaited player housing addition to World of Warcraft and would thoroughly enrich the roleplayer base experience. I support these requests!
