So, I’ve been playing a lot of New World. And I was looking at their cute little player houses that are in each zone’s capital city. Some interesting points:
-
There are several models at different price points to choose from. So if you can only afford the 2500 gold house, you can buy that. Or you can buy different house models per zone depending on your need.
-
The houses are used as warp points. I believe anyone in your party can warp as well.
-
Houses cost upkeep, but if you don’t pay the rent, you don’t lose the house, only the benefits.
-
You can decorate the houses. Some of the decorations include crafted items so furniture making is a viable trade. Some of the decor is also useful. Chests offer added storage. There are items that give buffs. The buffs stack with other buffs.
So imagine if WoW put in a player housing system that gave benefits but didn’t give reasons to just sit in your house like the garrisons did. No auction house access. No crafting and farming access. No vendors maybe? But you got perks for ownership and upkeep.

I’ve been wondering about New World’s housing, glad to hear it’s desirable!
Do you know if you’re able to sell a house after you buy it?

I just got NW over the weekend so I haven’t unlocked housing yet, but the fact there is housing already makes me happy.
Not that I know of, but I’m too broke to buy a house because I’m buying mats to turn in for quests.
Probably?
I remember seeing something about a limit on houses you can own
I’m skeptical of touching any game made by Amazon but I’ve been hearing alot of good things about New World. Is it worth trying out?
It’s… different. In a good way. It’s like got really good bones, but needs to grow more. And it could be great. It’s only 40 bucks and no sub. You can definitely get your money’s worth, I just hope Amazon keeps building it up.

you forgot one of the coolest things about player housing!
When you go inside, you’re instanced so no one in the city can see you, but YOU can still see everyone else walking around outside! It makes the houses and towns feel so alive!

I played NW for a few hours yesterday and I’m intrigued so far. The crafting is involved but not overly complex. The focus on PvP and high end rewards coming directly from PvP is certainly interesting. The world feels alive and dangerous when you’re flagged, and I guess there is some scaling too so that being lower level isn’t accepting instant death when facing someone higher.
The story is, so far, pretty hokey. There is voice acting, but the dialogue isn’t blowing any minds. I still need to learn more, I think. You pretty much immediately learn that no one can die on Aeternum, though not everyone comes back as alive as they were. Seems like you slowly lose your mind. Or god forbid you get afflicted by the emerald nightmare corruption, like the guy who is on the cover art that immediately turns into the all powerful god of war. I’m guessing the story isn’t going to be the main draw for most.
Reviewing some suggestions by players on the Reddit, there’s still a lot to be desired. There aren’t any mounts. Fast traveling costs you a pretty rare resource. Bullets are hard to come by, though I’ve heard this is less of an issue later on. You can’t swim but will instead walk on the floor of the body of water and will likely drown. There aren’t any vendors to quickly sell your garbage to; you’re either “salvaging” the items for their components, or putting them on the AH. There are also some UI complaints, but I personally didn’t see a huge issue with how the chat box looks or how the map has a lot of pop ups. Also the game will tell you if you leave a town and didn’t set your “hearth” there (checking in, is what they call it in game.) I both like and dislike that feature. Thanks for the reminder, but maybe I didn’t set my hearth there on purpose!
Overall, I expect a lot of those things to be fixed or addressed over time. Like swimming. No mounts is fine. This is their first MMO so I expected some weirdness, and overall the game is fun enough to forgive it. Also the scenery is pretty striking, and there are some really nice landscapes that just aren’t filled with mobs and I really like that.
Also you can go prone while using a musket and I feel like a sniper. Very evil.

I haven’t played NW, but I know Wildstar had amazing player housing. You had your own instanced plot of land (which was a generous amount) and you could freely place things wherever and however you wanted.
Though I do have a question about NW’s housing…
Is there a limited number of houses/plots that can be bought? (Example: Town A has 5 houses available. Town B has 7 houses available. Etc, etc)
The plots are limited, but anyone can buy the home. I was told there is a “peacock” score and whoever has the highest, will have their home on display for the world. So whoever has the most stuff gets to show off, but anyone can buy the plot of land to decorate as they wish
theres a scoreboard of sorts, and you can set someone elses on display and also pop in to look around
you wont see the owner of the house unless youre partied with them.
theres plenty of houses available in most of the town, idk if you can buy them all and they have different models and prices
Once you start the Azoth staff quest, you’ll start farming it from just about everything you kill, even the critters for cooking
you can also use it in your crafting to get secondary stats, the more you use, the more stats on the piece. most pieces have a cap on how much you can spend on it

The game is pretty enjoyable, to me it fills the Diablo and WoW itch. Definitely needs more polish and bugs worked out, and supposedly more PvE content.
For a one time payment, I feel like I’ve gotten my money worth.
So I just realized that the homeowner with the most fashion points gets their home displayed to the public on that plot.
No one wants a Dark Souls MMO. I’d like to be able to play it, thx.
The foolproof way to make it work: Vanity WITHOUT utility.
That’s where Garrisons went wrong, in my opinion. Rather than being an expression of the player and an outlet for their creativity and character desires, they became conduits of gold generation and character performance, thus “forcing” you to participate - even if you’d rather not - and factoring into gameplay outside of them.
I think it’s a great way to incentivize achievements and reps outside of the typical rewards. Exalted with a racial faction? Now you can have buildings with their respective architecture! Got a rare achievement such as AotC? Plant that raid boss’ head up on the wall!
Garrisons really did try and embody this in some ways, but the execution was flawed in that it became a core factor of gameplay rather than a simple creative outlet. Don’t make us spend time there, make us want to.

They have the perfect base model for it too, the farmhouse in Pandaria’s Valley of the 4 winds.
You can pretty much only really use it for cooking, which makes sense, cause ppl cook in their house. You could also use it to grow trees that dont do anything but makes a great rp prop.
Racial building model and maybe a different area to build it wouldve been one hell of an update for us
Garrisons wouldve been great if it was for the Guild
