Player housing better be not just for the rich

It’s not pure speculation.

Holly Longdale is the Executive Producer of World of Warcraft and she was the previous Executive Producer of Everquest/Everquest 2.

She is the reason we have delves (EQ2 Solo Instances), follower dungeons (EQ2 Mercenaries), etc. She’s copying all of the big success items that made EQ/EQ2 better in QOL, and also player housing.

You can go speculate EQ2 and you can get a general idea of what is coming. She’s not going to reinvent the wheel, when she has already invented the best player housing of ANY mmorpg to date, with Everquest 2. Every other mmorpg that has player housing has copied and failed to match the success of EQ2 player housing. Nobody has come close.

Hands down nothing compares to EQ2 housing, so I imagine it’s going to be like that. Since you know, she invented it, and now she runs the entire Warcraft Franchise as Executive Producer.

it is in every other game - why do you think blizzard wouldn’t make it the same?

I never understood why people want this but I knew if blizzard ever did it, it would be non stop complaining because it is just a terrible system in other games.

For now, you can mog for free during the Fashion event at the anniversary event place. Save yourself some gold!

We all know it’s gonna be a gold sink for the top 1% of players who are gold capped on like 20 toons while the rest can barely afford out repair bills.

They really needed to give more details than simply confirming its existence.

Is housing phased? If it’s not then how are we going to prevent people from fighting over the best spots? Can we have a house in any and every zone(it needs to be EVERY ZONE)? How much will this realistically cost? Are we going to have smaller houses so people can enjoy this feature or is it going to be a 50 million gold sink out the gate(awful)?

Hopefully, this is not something that will be gate kept. The entire game is already gate kept enough. I just want my own little piece of Azeroth.

We need to give them constructive feedback asap. I personally believe we should have varying sizes of houses, a small can cost 50k gold max, a medium size can be 100k and a large can maybe be 500k. I don’t want it to be anything more than this because furniture and other items will cost additional gold. Just decking out a small house will probably cost like 500k gold for the people who can afford this.

I also want to be able to choose any zone in the game, I want alts to have their own houses as well, let’s not make it an account wide warband house. Every race has its own flavor so we need architecture and the choice to have houses for alts.

I am unsure how phasing or not phasing would work for this. Realistically, I do not think WoWs engine can handle unphased housing no matter what they do to the engine.

**spec·u·la·tion **
[ˌspekyəˈlāSHən]

noun
the forming of a theory or conjecture without firm evidence:
“there has been widespread speculation that he plans to quit” · “this is pure speculation on my part” · “these are only speculations”

You are quite literally doing the textbook definition of speculation. Until something is officially said on the matter, this is all merely guesses based on what she has previously done with Everquest. It’s always possible that some of what worked in EQ might not work in WoW, especially considering how much of a mess the coding on this game is at times. You cannot assume this is going to be a straight 1:1 recreation in all aspects and that it will be successful just because both games happen to share one key team member.

If that logic held true, then Daikatana should have been on the same level of quality as Doom just because both games had involvement from John Romero.

Way cheaper than being a shield tank.

So if you don’t have money in the game or irl , you’re not the target audience of their business

lmao ya lost me here

nothing is coded worse than EQ2. It’s still to this day literally coded on the premise of single core cpu’s being massive, which is not how it went. Instead, CPU went multi core and are still mostly below 4ghz as they were 20 years ago.

If she can do it with a small literal indie dev company with 3 developers on a broken and busted engine, she can do it under the third richest corporation in the entire world.

Get real. Come check back after Midnight launches and bring a napkin to wipe the egg on your face.

Now that will be a pure speculation.

da tawp wun puhcent uv da tawp wun puhcent own nineynine puhcent uv all da hawses

Get some alts with gathering professions, specialize just in gathering at the highest quality. Put some time into farming mats and selling it. You’ll make decent money.

yea if getting decorations isnt similar to how battle pets are obtained(various horizontal activities) i dont want it.

We did see Onyxia’s head in the video, so I imagine killin Onyxia would be how you got that trophy.

I imagine there will be world quests, vendors with currency, rare boss / rare drops, Main Story Quest rewards, raid bosses, dungeon bosses, achievement rewards, and basically all the things that drop battle pets/mounts/transmogs, will now also drop various trophies/furniture items. Maybe even dungeon trash will drop stuff like tables and chairs and wall decorations that exist in that specific instance.

I imagine if it’s going to be an expansion feature, they are going to go all out. They already have the assets. They can go crazy with decades of assets.

People with Invincible going back to farm ICC for the Frostmourne Trophy will be a meme.

To be honest I think they have already developed some form of AI that does a lot of the work for them currently with Transmogs on the Trading Post, so they probably have the same thing available for creating house items via existing assets, so they will be able to pump a lot of stuff out over a relatively short amount of time.

I agree. However, I’m fine with there being parts of said house that are gold sinks.

Like, you know, certain furniture sets or what have you. That’s 100% A-OK in my book.

But I really, really, REALLY don’t want this system to work like FFXIV’s where space is limited, and only 10 million gold bids win the lots, etc. etc. Like, oh my god, that might actually be the thing that makes me finally quit the game. (It’s why I quit FFXIV, actually. By being late to the part, and with all the people exploiting sub farms, I knew I’d never get a lot, and it just killed the drive to try).

I hope it’s like Garrisons without a city hub, that way people won’t actually have a reason to stay there and not associate with others, which was the main complaint of WoD.

Just give us a customizable base to decorate and show off our accomplishments. The most customizable, the better. Let us invite friends over, but make it instanced like Garrisons so there are infinite lots and no FFXIV drama can occur.

That’d be great.

I just fear they’ll make it a gold sink only thing for the sole purpose of them selling tokens. I hope they get enough revenue from selling furniture and wallpaper, etc. in the shop that they won’t have to make the feature only available to the rich, though.

i hope so. the closer they can get it to building on private servers with all the game’s object ID’s, the better.

just imagine the housing is like the “decorate” your factions embassy quest. everything is in a predetermined location and all you can do is choose minor aesthetic changes.

Dont expect more. This is Blizzard we are talking about.

that would be terrible and just garrisons again.

Of course its gonna be a money maker. WHy would they do anything else

Why not? The only example we have is garrisons which is considered a universal failure and they have even admitted it in interviews.

We will get more information in the coming months, I’m sure. I imagine it’s going to be a fully customizable plot where you can shrink/expand items. You can make Frostmourne be 2 inches or 12 feet long, 1 inch or 6 feet wide. Whatever you want.

This already exists in games that are even older than WoW, so I can’t see why they would develop a feature that’s literally already been voted as garbage during the time when WoW lost the most subscribers of any expansion, ever. WoD, which is where Garrisons were.

They won’t just do Garrisons 0.5 and hope it works again, with less features. The investors would be firing everyone for making such a blatantly obvious mistake.

If they are going to do housing, they are going to do it justice. I don’t see it any other way. It will probably be an entirely new system, basically a “mini engine” and probably have a long loading time. But if anything it’s going to be a decent housing system. There’s no other way at this point.

They hired Holly Longdale to do WoW classic, because she invented it in EQ/EQ2, and then promoted her to Executive Producer of all of Warcraft, and she invented the best housing system in all mmorpg’s to date. She’s gonna do a good job.

I’ll bet and put up 10 WOW tokens on it.

Hate to say this but that may be exactly what they’re planning, making housing a gold sink. I’m surprised they’d do player housing before we get our own ships but hey whatever long as it’s optional and doesn’t lag the entire server to death
