Player housing and you think you want it

Not sure what you’re getting at here.

I don’t think they will push it past cosmetics. Sadly I can see guilds having a home owners association because they want to unlock X cosmetic.

That I definitely agree with. I think having it non-instanced would create a whole mess of issues for very little benefit.

They are attempting to discredit your opinion because the games you listed are either not that popular, in maintenance mode, or shut down. So that must mean housing must suck right??

Meanwhile, even if you look at the biggest and most popular MMOs right now, the vast majority all have housing that is successful and used by many players. WoW is just catching up to the norm here.

I don’t know for sure how housing will work in WoW, but I’m fairly certain I will enjoy having the addition, however it gets implemented, because I like player housing in every game that offers it that I’ve played.

What I can guarantee you with 100% certainty is:

In the 1st Hour After Housing Goes Live…
…there will be people on this forum threatening to quit the game over its implementation. Their complaints will vary wildly, and it will be worth an entire cup of coffee to read all of the creative ways people got offended by the new player housing.

There Will Be At Least 3 Threads on Day One…
…wherein the OP blames every problem he/she perceives in the current game on the “waste of time” developers spent on giving us player housing. One of these threads will boast an OP longer than three printed A4 pages of type.

These things will happen here, and it will not be a reflection of how player housing has actually landed with the community at large. Most of us are going to play with the shiny new toy when it goes live. Some of us will like it. Some of us won’t.

It is a net positive that it’s being added to the game, and if they continue to tweak it and develop it out for future expansions…even better.

Yup, there is going to be alot of disappointment for sure. Never in my mmo time have i played a game due to their housing. Not even once. Its always a waste of resources and time. Everyone is excited now but it will fade.

I mean your opinion is valid, but like… the second largest MMO out right now has player housing and it’s one of it’s most popular features in the game.

If you say so. The whole thing just feels like a massive waste of time that could be better used on actual content. Ill bet its a massive failure and ill bookmark this post just so i can rub it in later.

Burglar/next door neighbors walks in uninvited: just dozens of Hellhounds staring back from every couch, table, and available floor space

I’ll bet the only metric you’ll use to decide that its a failure is you personally not liking it.

I use my garrisons every day. It’s dropped off a bit but still clearing 400g/day for each one. Garrisons and tokens were the ONLY good things about WoD. :speak_no_evil::hear_no_evil::see_no_evil:

I don’t really care that much about it, but i just don’t see how this is a problem at all.

It’s still a net positive for me, you gain player housing, you lose nothing.

Semi-related but I remember a Reddit ama by a man who had to have his foot amputated. The doctors let him keep it and he and his friends cooked it and made it into taco meat. I wish I was lying.

Jesus, i definitely did not need to know that.

That sickeningly refreshing feeling when your misanthropy is once more validated…

I mean… if that makes you happy, then I support you. Though I may not be your target audience since they’d have to massively screw up for me not to like something like player housing, and my enjoyment is literally the only metric I use for any video game… So…I mean… I just don’t want you to feel like your wasting your time!

This is like saying “At some point your will get old”

Like duh. You people cry and moan about anything and everything.

I swear its like the playerbase that comes to the forums just hates the rest of the community.

Threads like these have no point other than to stir the pot and start flame wars.

Oh, im not concerned about what others think of me or targeted audiences. Im just bored and posting while im delaying having to go shovel the 6 inches of snow i got last night. Blizzard is going to do as they wish regardless of anything any of us think.

If i cared about audiences i would just go post on X where im paid to do so.

I use my garrison all the time, as well, and when I make new characters, I purposefully get them a garrison.

I do this largely for pet battle content, but I also use the AH and banking features. I suspect I will use it far less often once we have player housing. Garrisons were set up to be disposable and expansion-specific, and they did not contain an actual house or any type of evergreen customization.

I have often thought of Garrisons to Player Housing as Void Elves to High Elves. The portion of the community asking for one got the other instead and then had to listen to a bunch of gaslighting for years afterward whenever they pointed out that it wasn’t what they asked for.

I could not possibly care less about whether or not High Elves got added as a playable race, but there have been players asking for them literally since OG Vanilla. Giving the Alliance Void Elves felt almost vindictive, even to me, a player who doesn’t have any attachment to that particular request and actually enjoys the Void Elf origin story and racial abilities.

Garrisons were not player housing, and it was insulting when Blizzard employees referred to it as their attempt at player housing in WoW. Anyone who has played video games in the RPG genre–MMO or not–knows what player housing is, so it made such an assertion all the more irritating. Now, we’re getting actual player housing–an area of the game I do personally care about.

I’m happy about it, and as long as it’s actual player housing and set up to be useful in an evergreen way, I will like it (even if it doesn’t tick every box on my wishlist).
