With both factions being all peaceful and accepting now its about time they make peace with their local neighbors. The alliance, gnolls and the Horde, quillboar. Finding a middle ground and making peace with these two “pest” races would go a long way to helping secure their territories and bringing peace and safety to the countless villages and what not constantly targeted by said races. Why exterminate them when you can simply befriend them and allow them to be a part of something greater?
Gnolls and Quillboar are both overlooked races that would be awesome if they were ever made playable. They would provide benefits to both sides if they joined up with their prospective faction. As I mentioned it would go a long way towards bringing peace to their territory. Quillboar with their crazy thorn magic would offer a major boon towards horde military and soldiers allowing them to create and carve out secure campsites in any terrain for example.

Two new horde races. Incoming.
I’ll help you identify races that might happen:
Do they already share a skeleton with an existing race? If yes, then Blizzard wouldn’t have to try very hard to make them. As a result, they might get added.
If they DON’T share a skeleton, I can pretty much guarantee that they’ll never ever ever make it into the game. Doesn’t matter if they’d be a very popular race, doesn’t matter if they could realistically guarantee sales of a new expansion that had them, WoW is in cash cow mode. You won’t see new major additions like classes and truly new races, just reskins of the same underlying skeleton.
Gnolls, Quillboar, Centaurs, Arakkoa, any of those would have a huge following, but none of those have skeletons that would work with most armors. They’d have to go back through and make the hundreds (thousands?) of cloth/leather/mail/plate work with those races.

This is the new character creation UI in shadowlands. The idea of allied race slots is completely gone on Shadowlands release.

No more races for at least two expansions. If I can’t play them without grinding reputation for months then please don’t bother wasting your or my time with this garbage.
I want those panther people that hang out in Ashran.

I believe I understand your thought about Blizz overlooking some races. Most of the allied races are just reskins of an already existing race (I.E Dwarves/Dark Iron Dwarves). In Shadowlands Blizz has made changes to appearance so that you can now be a “wildhammer dwarf” through the warpaint and extra options. IMO the options to look like a dark iron or a highmountain tauren, etc should have been added to the barber shop/character select in a form of a customization. This would allow Blizz to improve upon already existing races without needing the differentiation between an original race and the now separate one. By condensing the races into just dwarves, tauren, draenei, orcs, etc you would essentially open the door to have more unique races that could bring a different culture into there respected faction. Players can still choose to be dark iron/highmountain/lightforged/maghar etc but would stay under the main race umbrella to keep everything nice and organized so we dont have a thousand different races to choose from.
As to other things to consider to being an “additional” race, there is always the technical side of things like movement, gear fitting, having a male/female of that race, etc that presents problems when determining if it would actually be playable and enjoyable. Personally I think both Gnolls and Quillboar would have a rough time with gear. There are other races; Vrykul, Ogres, Broken and Tuskarr that have been overlooked for similar reasons.
The idea is really cool, unfortunately, i’m not sure blizz would take the time and put in the effort to make some of those things happen. The addition of the new customizations in SL was long overdue and those were mostly minor changes. Still kinda miffed over horde getting Vulpera as I mainly play Alliance, but at least they are playable period so that’s something to consider. I know this prob would never happen but it would be nice to completely dissolve the factions and play whatever race you wanted and earn rep and stuff with all of them. That’s a whole different can of worms though.
No chance.
Realistically, the Alliance would never stoop to trying to befriend a race as savage as gnolls, who similarly would have no interest in joining the Alliance, and the art team won’t even give them models for both genders that don’t also look like they crawled out of a late-era N64 game. Hell, the most famous gnoll character is dead. Then the 15 people who would play them would start asking for gnoll paladins, druids, and demon hunters…
Quillboar are also unlikely due to their past experiences with some Horde races and stubbornness when it comes to sharing territory, though they would at least fit the faction thematically and have modern models.
Gnolls are pretty unintelligent and would provide the Alliance with nothing of value other than crude weaponry and a bit of geomancy. I’m not sure if they’ve even been shown as having any major settlements or are capable of militarizing.
Quillboar, meanwhile, have had at least two dungeons and a few other settlements and could provide the Horde with a few tactical boons, so pairing them together would be as lopsided advantage-wise as mechagnome technology vs. whatever the vulpera bring.
Just like the 15 people who keep asking for paladin junkgnomes, druids and demon hunters. Although this race has no inclination to these disciplines and much less interest in anything other than a battery and a can of grease.
