Plague Incoming? Pandemic researchers have their eyes on WoW

How they act in regards to interacting with other people or in a crisis like the corrupted blood pandemic, probably pretty similar. It’s pretty interesting that virologists have been keeping track of how people react during a pandemic and there’s lots of studies on it, and then it happens in WoW and it matches up with exactly how people react during real life global pandemics based on those same studies. Pretty wild.

I haven’t seen the video yet (really looking forward to it because I always hoped he’d do a theory about WoW*, since we have so much subject matter to tap), so I dunno if its been brought up yet, but in a way there was a precedence for this during the WoLK pre-patch.

The way the scourge debuff was designed to spread and accelerate–becoming harder and harder to cleanse was really immersive. There was a wooden stage put up in SW near the Trade Square tree, with Argent Dawn flags and NPCS that would cleanse it off you. Eventually those NPC’s ‘left’ and the stage was just left there, giving the appearance of ‘Welp, good luck.’

Since this was also before everyone had repair mounts, this led to people having to face Having to come to town to get their armor and buisiness taken care of.

That was such a good event.

*This is to make a note that there was a WoW theory, but it was more focused on math and MatPat wasn’t the guy doing the actual video though it was on the channel. It was about how Sargeras’ sword strike would have actually affected life on Azeroth, and how much force it would have generated. It was good.

It worries me if there are many attempting to spread the disease.

Those are the people who think if they just get it over with and get it they will develop an immunity, or the people who think we should all just go out and get it and develop herd immunity. Of course that’s completely not how this specific virus works, but yeah, people are totally doing that, just like people did in WoW during the corrupted blood pandemic.

Lucky guy. Some countries make decisions based on religion…and they got screwed.

Snake oil is nothing new. It relies on someone being desperate for a fix or cure to a problem.

It’d probably evoke a collective “piss off!” from the classic community who just want to play a video game, not be some labrat.

I’m so tired of hearing “pandemic” 24/7 since this all started, I don’t think I’d be real thrilled finding it ingame but that’s me.

wasn’t recommending injecting alcohol, i was refuting a claim that injecting any amount of something that is a disinfectant would be guaranteed death.

No-one has claimed that “injecting any amount of something that is a disinfectant would be guaranteed death”.

Randomly injecting any type of poison would still be insane, and injected alcohol is a poison. There is no case in which injecting a disinfectant is something a sane, honest person would recommend.

no, this is not something to joke about.

Being an island helps a lot.

This video did emphasize it is how people behalf in response to these situations that is of most value to study.

That idea is something a 10 year old would come up with and to be honest most 10 year olds have more sense.

Why does this lady look like a wax figure, but in the process of melting?

Also, Azillaether, you wanna talk about the skittish closing and opening? Is everything okay?

I have my faith and I follow science and evolution. What bothers me the most is when any form of government and/or faith suppresses the history of the world to suit an agenda.

The worst kind of life, is life seen through the eyes of the uneducated. The truth is ugly. The past is ugly. Only the victorious write the history.

Then you have savages burning down the Library of Alexandria. Visigoths destroying Rome. Looters of Giza in the 19th century. Terrorists of the modern day smashing ruins.

And then you read this: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brahmashirsha_astra

Makes you wonder, doesn’t it . . .

Plague inc. Have a better simulation of how a real Pandemic works.
