They’re not. People trying to pretend they’re in the top tiered raiding guilds are just pretending they have to pick for optimization when they don’t need to.

It’s like complaining back in Wrath about how only Warrior Tanks were optimal. Yet Paladins, Druids and DKs did fine for everything that wasn’t chasing world first.

Bastion was the most visually appealing to me. So I pick Kyrian! And I’m loving it, the zone is so pretty.

Oh yeah it’s MEGA bad for affliction warlocks. Don’t care. Picked it anyway the second I saw concept art for Revendreth.

I CAN TELEPORT BY TURNING INTO BLOOD THAT’S THE HYPEST

The other reason I picked it is because Rosenivy has some pretty big guilt issues after he helped Sylvanas a lot in BfA. So the whole “redemption through suffering” thing meshed with them.

I agree with everything you said and its exactly what I did when I hit 60 on day 2 lol. I love that zone. The theme, npcs, armor. Sure the spells suck for warlock but I dont care lol. Same with Pally, went necrolords. Im really not interested at all in the other 2 covenants. Bastion just seems like annoying weaklings and night fae is just disney fairy magic and while the zone looks great im just not into feeling like a 10 year old by picking that zone. Its great if everyone esle enjoys it. Everyone likes different things. Seems like they tried to fit atleast one zone that you would like over the others. Ill eventually make a night fae and bastion for the story tho. I will say after doing the crown quest I wish warlocks, mages and priests could levitate like that in combat or out of it. That quest really made me want some red colored spells like that and to levitate In combat like that with the aura. That was just epic imo. Overall venthyr story isn’t too bad to me.

I’ll eventually make a night faey too but that’s going to be my druid

I’ve already picked my covenant for all 12 classes based on theme/aesthetics as well as wanting an even mix of 3 chars for each of the 4 covs.

Some aligned with the best cov, some did not.

Necrolord - DK, warrior, mage

Venythir - warlock, rogue, DH

Night Fae - Druid, shaman, hunter

Kyrian - Monk, paladin, priest

I choose the covenant I like for story reasons. I don’t care about min maxing stress.

This is the problem that had been brought up alot during beta.

You can’t lump aesthetic and gameplay into a single option an call it a ‘meaningful choice’

A person really shouldn’t be out just because they wanted certain cosmetics of aesthetics.

For alot of people the ‘meaningful choice’ is,

“do I pick aesthetics I like and gameplay I hate. Or gameplay I like with aesthetics I don’t”

Some lucky few probably lucked out and the covenant they wanted ended up being the better choice, but I feel that’s very much a minority.

This is exactly what I did.

I don’t think so. For players who are min/maxing to squeeze every possible advantage the game can give them, the decision will be based on what covenant offers that to their class/spec. For the rest of us, we’re free covenants based on feel, on what covenant we want to interact with the most on a regular basis.

And this is exactly what my NElf Druid did an hour ago.

I’m sending the mage Nashira to Mal’draxxus. I mean really, Xialla thinks Ardenweald is the THE BEST THING EVER, but Nash is a fiery ball of anger issues that can’t take a joke. Can you imagine what would happen to their lovely forest the first time someone pranked her? O.o No, for everyone’s safety, we’re sending her to the least flammable afterlife. XD

Xialla is right !!!

I picked Night Fae because we saved Ysera. Her death made me sad and to see her back oh you have no idea how happy I was about that.

I admit to not playing all classes, so I’m asking this naively…

What Covenant abilities are “hated gameplay”?

I mean I kind of find the Flesh Armor having to be recast every 2 minutes mildly irritating, but… It’s not a big deal.

I haven’t found a single ability that made me go “Eww, how horrible it’d be to have this.”

So it comes back to, Optimization is if you’re chasing world first, otherwise anything will and can function if people would just ease off the idea that you “HAVE” to optimize.

i picked mine only for story reasons

Yeah, slightly hyberbolic but some class covenant abilities can have noticable change to how a class plays, whereas other it’s just a 3min CD.

Similar with some soulbinds, I wouldve liked the soulbind that gives a chance for a herb bag, instead my covenant gives me different profession mats.

So choosing a covenant I have a interest in gives me gameplay benefits that I have little interest in.

I went with NF on my main because of the benefits to gameplay, I don’t like nightfae. But I like to enjoy my gameplay.

I pick what I like for each character, almost completely against most meta options.

Venthyr has the best Warlock xmog and a fitting theme. No regrets.

I’m not a raider/mythic anything.

I chose Ardenweald because it was the only Covenant that didn’t annoy me, make me feel bad, or creep me out. Plus the artwork is magnificent.

Uh i just thought the kyrian spear was really cool so i chose it.
