Physical Collectors Edition: When do you get the digital code?

Picked up a couple of copies of the physical collectors edition, any idea how/when the code will show up?

No idea - trying to figure out how this works as well. I thought it meant they finally stopped making the CE purchasers buy two copies of the game lol.

Sadly, I think it’s just the same way they always do it. You have to buy CE and buy another edition. Once your CE comes in, they refund you via Battle net balance. It’s honestly a pretty crappy system they’ve developed, but they won’t change it it seems.

I would like to announce that I, too, am part of the physical collectors edition.

For 1.2 million you get to keep me in your house.

I am mostly house broken

Last time we got them a few before launch on S L the code will be in the box so I would say 2 to 3 weeks before launch

Been wondering this myself.
Have not pre-ordered yet but it sounded like you would get a code for doing so.

Nothing in the inbox currently, and it looks like gear dot blizzard dot com isn’t exactly aligned with our battlenet accounts. Sent an email to support over there, but no response yet.

Small indie company as my guildies would say.

I’m pretty sure it’ll come in the box, same as the others. That’s why you get Battle.net Balance when you redeem it on top of an existing Dragonflight account.

If you are able, please post when you do get an answer.

That’s a bummer if it’s the case, the wording was a bit different this time around mentioning a digital code specifically. Maybe they changed it since on the digital side of things both codes unlock the same things in previous releases.

I thought it always came in the box as a code?

I’m wondering how Drakks will be distributed to folks who only buy the physical CE, if there aren’t any codes sent over the internet. That pet’s exclusively a preorder bonus, so if there aren’t any codes aside from the one(s) in the box then how is anyone gonna know whether a CE was purchased as a preorder or not? Or do they typically stop producing/selling CEs after an expansion launches?

The CE codes will probably all just grant it regardless of when its applied.

They typically stop producing them after launch but no all of them sell out before them.

Honestly as soon as I asked, I realized it makes sense that production for a CE would stop after the release date. At that point every CE is effectively a preorder, so they could totally just put all the codes in the box like you say. :+1:

The code for the game comes in the box.

You have the option to use the code with any of your accounts. If your account already has the Epic (or any other edition) you will be refunded the difference in Blizzard Balance.

I had those situations when I bought Battle For Azeroth Collector’s Edition and later in Shadowlands Collector’s Edition as I want to play on Day 1. BTW, I have all Collector’s Edition on all WoW expansions.

On Collector’s Edition (BFA onwards), they will mail you a physical copy. You can play only after receiving the box as the digital code is inside. And the physical copy sometimes gets to you late. And sometimes it gets to you a day before the release date. It depends.

I called in Blizzard to tell them that I want to buy the Collector’s Edition and I want to play on day 1 of the released date.

On BFA, this what happened. Blizzard asked me to buy both the Collector’s Edition and the basic digital code. On Day 1, I could use the basic digital code so I could play right away. When my Collector’s Edition comes, then I should use its code to get my Collector’s Edition. And call Blizz to dissolve the basic digital copy and they would send me back my money. And that’s what happened.

On Shadowlands, my Collector’s Edition arrived one week before Day 1. They learned from my issue on BFA.

Before Legion, WoW Expansions have midnight opening from stores. I remember I bought Wrath Collector’s Edition at Fry’s Electronics. There was a long line encircling around the store building. The devs and publishers were there to sign at your copy. I didnt have it signed becoz there’s also a separate line for it. I just took off right away so I could install and play it. Oh, they also gave me free posters. BTW, I have TBC and Wrath Posters.

On Cata and beyond, I bought my Collector’s Edition copies from my local Bestbuy or Gamestop. I called them first if they would open on midnight before I reserved my copy. I asked those stores if they have posters. Bestbuy gave me Cataclysm and Pandaria posters. Gamestop dont have Draenor poster… boo.

Yes, this looks like the way to go.

  • Buy the Epic Edition
  • Buy the CE
  • When you get the CE, enter that code to get credited for the Epic Edition

Upgrading From Base Edition, Heroic Edition, or Epic Edition to Collector’s Edition

If you’ve purchased a digital copy of Dragonflight from our in-game shop or Blizzard > shop, and want to upgrade to the Collector’s Edition, we will automatically credit you the cost of the digital copy in Blizzard Balance—as long as you enter the Collector’s Edition key before 11:59 p.m. PDT on December 31, 2023. When you enter the key from your Collector’s Edition, the credit will automatically kick in based on the original transaction on your account.

They have that too in Shadowlands release but the Collector’s Edition arrived a week before Day 1 so I didnt have to buy the digital copy.

Buy your Collector’s Edition early so it wont come to you late.

Take note… Collector’s Edition has limited copies. Buying them after release date would be very expensive as they are not available on gaming stores. One Online Store sell Legion Collector’s Edition at $418 and shipping is not included.

yes and no, it is always smart to get it as early as possible, but ive gotten them a month after launch. usually i preorder the CE from amazon, but WoD was so bad i waited a month into Legion to see what others were saying before buying, and i got my Legion CE from amazon for regular price a month after launch.

i usually watch em too even after i got mine incase a friend wants one and i can tell em where to get it, and really only the 20th anniversary and SL sold out and were marked up right after launch. i hope that isnt a trend now, but its possible, so the earlier is still the better.

Your code will arrive when your physical collectors edition arrives.

I went through that with Shadowlands.

Yeah, it’s honestly frustrating that after all these years, they can’t come up with a better system. Seems like you could just say “YES, charge me NOW, sense me the Collector’s Edition whenever it’s there, but upgrade my account in the meantime”.
