I have played for ~7 yrs on an off even some 10m and 25m raiding back in the day. The only addon I ever used was DBM and only cuz the guild required it. But also if youre on vent or discord someone can just call it out.
99% of the time Ive been healer but I also tank some too. People dont ‘need’ addons, they like them, then come to rely on them. I prefer wow unchanged.
The only UI mod i think blizzard HAS to make is get rid of those stupid talking head pop up boxes. As a tank / healer Im busy doing other stuff, yall would know that if your devs like , played the game.
No
Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

There are a lot of non-combat addons that enable functionality missing the base UI.
Some wild stuff makes it’s way around.
They said if they phase things out it won’t be soon. And the only thing they’ve broken is computation addons.
So nothing for the foreseeable future other that the ability to use base options instead of addons.
There’s currently no indication that they’re going to be phasing out all addons, and I do hope it stays that way. There are a lot of really cool niche addons (RP addons especially) that I know they’ll never include in their base game, so I don’t want them touching that.
They’re not removing addons, ever. They will be toning down the ability of addons to get combat info. Huge difference.
Torches and pitchforks!
Get your torches here!
Can’t form an angry mob without your torches and pitchforks!
I aint reading all that chief.
No it isnt
They said they want to reel in some specific functionality of some add ons.
Not get rid of them or ban them.
There is a difference
I question whether anyone who calls a 700-word post a book has ever read a book.

Do you carry any flamethrowers by chance? I will need at least 4.

Themselves, but there’s nuance to that statement. First, nothing is getting removed any time soon, and second remove is likely too strong of a word. Thirdly, they aren’t going after QOL addons (such as RP addons) and are mainly focused on improving the combat experience in the game so people don’t feel like doing any sort of content that requires some amount of effort without downloading addons is a terrible experience.
Once they have implemented their versions of the addons into the game at some point addon API access will be pulled back. This is why “removed” is likely too strong of a word; they will not be banned, but the reduced accessibility they will have to game information will make them minimally beneficial if not obsolete. Addons like damage meters, boss mechanics, weakauras or rotation helpers are probably some of the most obvious ones that could take a serious hit. Weakaura raid packages that manage everything for you are probably not going to be a thing going forward, but that’s just my guess.
Developers of these addons may voluntarily choose to stop updating them if its not beneficial for them (really depends on if they use it as a source of income or just a hobby I suppose). It’s also possible the end result is Blizzard now offers stuff like DBM/Bigwig and an in-game meter in their game and it’s decent enough, but not as good as an addon so the more serious players still use those addons. The point is now a laid back player who does a bit of M+ and some normal/heroic raiding doesn’t feel like they need to keep managing and updating addons just to do some of the more chill content.
Which is exactly why I didn’t read it.

100% this.
There are tons of things I don’t like or want and guess what – I don’t use them. It is a simple yet effective resolution to a problem.
Don’t like add-ons - don’t use them.
Don’t like beer - don’t drink it.
Don’t like beef – don’t eat it.
Don’t like the Ocean - don’t visit it.
Ion gave an interview a few weeks ago talking about how he wants the WoW base UI to do a lot of things that WA and DBM and Hekili do on their own so these addons won’t feel as necessary as they might feel today.
But he never explicitly said that those addons would be broken. I got the feeling they might be more restricted in the future, but I doubt they’ll be wholly broken.
However, GD being GD, some people got hysterical about it.
Real pros dont use Add ons. RWF is boring AF now since they just listen to their add on.

RWF are real pros as in they do it as a compensated career and play at a professional level lol
it was a joke they shouldnt be able to use add ons
They could just kill combat add-ons like WA and DBM. There’s nothing wrong with basic UI add-ons like elvui or whatever. Probably there will be a huge dropoff in raid engagement if they nerf DBM though, the average person can barely even do molten core or onyxia in classic with DBM telling them what to do. That’s probably why they don’t change it, because they know the average player isn’t very smart and can’t even do basic things without prompting. The flip side is then you need hyper complex fights for smart players to have any challenge. It’s tough when the intelligence range you’re trying to design around is like 50+ IQ points wide, add-ons were a way to level that somewhat while removing direct accountability from the devs.
