The pet system in cata is supposed to let you have 5 different active pets and 20 stabled, its still working as in wotlk, only 5 in stable and one active only
There was a blue post about this a few days ago, the new pet system isn’t implemented fully yet and will be available on Cata launch (or possibly sooner)
