Pet question

Ok thanks.

Here’s my additional question. I understand how the training points work to a certain point. I understand the loyalty part and having to learn new spells, now. But where I’m a bit confused is this -
I know you are able to have three pets at once (2 stabled, 1 active). Can I tame a owl… build it with high armor and health and stable it… pull out my wolf and train that one with different traits with nature and fire resistance and not worry about health/armor? Or, are all pets share the same “tree”?

Dude, if you’re going to give advice, don’t give wrong information. Not all pets have the same attack speed in Classic. That’s only in Retail. Broken Tooth is 1.0, and is the only (tameable) cat that is. The next fastest is 1.2.

That’s why people no-life BT’s spawn point for days.

All pets share the same pool of skills (which is why you tame temporary pets to get a particular skill to be able to train it on another pet). You allocate those skills individually on each different pet.

Besides the skills restricted to some pet families you can build your pets any way you want, you can have one pet focused on dps and another one focused on “tanking”.

…and a pet focussed on Fire Resist for MC.

As your pet levels it gains stamina appropriate to its level. A level 60 pet is a level 60 pet!

Again, if you had read Petopia, you would know that some pets within a certain species have different attack speeds. That is the only difference between say, one type of cat and another. Again, you will have to consult Petopia for specific information about given types of beasts.

I always teach my cats claw and bite and either prowl or dash (depending on attack speed. Slower-prowl; faster-dash)

My information was not wrong. My advice was to get a lower level cat with fast attack speed and level as you go, so you don’t have to kite mobs to level the cat if you wait until 60. Lower level cats are 1.3-1.4 speed, and you’re going to want to keep that over waiting to take one in Winterspring. Brokentooth is level 37. That’s not a higher level cat like those in Winterspring, and every cat over level 42 is 2.0. That’s at least 13 pet levels of kiting and it’s annoying.

Of course, you’d go ahead and level Brokentooth up if you got him, but trying to tame Brokentooth on a megapop server is a colossal waste of your time. ZG bats will be out before most people can get him.

So far (37 hunter) I’ve found that learning a new skill or a new level in a skill is very quick. For example, I’ll go tame a pet with that new skill, then go kill some mobs. Within 10 minutes I’ve learned the new skill and can abandon the new pet.

By comparison, pet-leveling and loyalty take a long time. My hunter gets more than 1/2 a level in the same time my pet gets 1 level.

That means it is hard for me to keep 2 pets “at my level or just 1 level lower”. One pet keeps falling 2 or 3 levels behind me.

I spent a couple hours studying Petopia and taking notes. Most pets can learn 2 or 3 of the group Dash/Bite/Cower. Other than that (and other than trainer-learned skills) each pet family has 1 special ability: prowl (cats), charge (boars), Furious Howl (wolves)…

Pick one pet to level to 60 with. Have one open slot so you can learn new skills.
