Perfect responce from a gm that shows Bliz' no respect for customer loyalty. EDIT: They did resolve it in a way that was great

Maybe not “generally”, but I was hacked back in BC , on my origional account, they sold all my stuff, deleted my alts, including ng two 70 ones and robbed my guilds bank! I just got exalted with sporegar, they took all my herbalism crap, too. Don’t toons my eye!

It is not criminal to not believe someone when they say “I got hacked”

From reading the OP, seems like the GM handled it professionally. Don’t see a problem here.

I think the benefit of the doubt should be given on this one. Yes, that’s part of customer service - sometimes you give the benefit of the doubt. It has happened in worse cases, and companies have had to write off products. But in this case, it’s not happening.

I am aware of the logic and reasoning behind investigating a “hacking” and not finding evidence that it was done by a party remotely, but I’m of the opinion that they should just go the extra mile on this one and restore the characters. They aren’t really giving anything away by doing it. They are just expediting a process that would normally be in the player’s control but take much longer.

The wool has been pulled over their eyes for much worse things, like people getting duplicate items or gear and items that were previously removed from the game when they weren’t actually eligible for those items.

Time to change your game password and your pin on your phone. An authenticator will do no good if someone knows your phone’s pin. I would think that your phone pin would be one of the first things to change if someone is no longer in your life.

You might even change your account name and e-mail address. I did that after my account was hacked years ago. That was before authenticators came out. And don’t have the game automatically start up. Always require a password upon login. Hack-proof your account every way you can.

Let’s look at it from the GM’s standpoint though… they could either just hide behind ‘the book’ and reply with copypasta… or risk going against the grain and putting in a bunch of extra work? Of course they were just like “eh, neh…”

The appropriate steps have been taken against the person. that’s not what I’m asking blizz to do. It’s not the polices responsibilty to force blizz to restore characters. That is where faith comes in on Blizz part.

You were the one making the argument that unauthorized access is not hacking. My point does not pertain to Blizzard, it pertains to you.

I believe you already understand my opinion on your situation. I sympathize, but your situation contains a massive red flag ripe for abuse and lets be clear, people look to abuse all the time. You also outright ignored what I said regarding difficulty of the restoration of data while making assumptions as well.

As I have said before, as well as others, you should plead your case in the CS forums if you haven’t already and hope for the best.

The thing is, it’s not Blizzard’s responsibility to restore the characters, either. They’ve given us the tools to do so ourselves, and numerous tools to digitally secure our accounts. Those tools were circumvented through your own negligence.

No, your point doesn’t pertain to anything here, as it only shows that unauthorized access of a computer is a crime. That does not make it a security breach exercised through the use of a computer to gain access to a secured system.

Again, this was a physical security breach, not a digital one.

The problem is, it’s not provable. That I’m not arguing. There are no logs to prove my point. This is why I’m asking blizz to work with me and have a little faith. Again. Innocent until proven guilty. This is not a cut and dry case, and there is def some shades of gray. But my above point still stands. Your character is sexy btw.

If you have questions, ask on Customer Support. The blues there can review the account and see what’s transpired. If there was a compromise, they can give you some guidance. If there wasn’t a compromise (and they have logs to tell all the IP addresses ever used to access the account) then you’ll likely have to wait out the time period to restore the characters.

Your troll skills need polish, keep practicing.

Lot of a-holes and self-righteous fools in this thread.

I actually suggested as such to them, since they stated the attacker figured out their phones PIN code. This all would be filed under identity theft hacking. Nasty stuff really.

I’m good, thanks. I don’t troll on these forums.

Honestly, this is why I used the little apostrophes around ‘hacking’ when I mentioned it myself. It isn’t just that it’s inaccurate – it gives the usual crop of account thieves too much credit. It implies that they’re masterminds or otherwise intelligent, educated people, when in reality they’re little more than con artists.

There are people in this world who are skillful enough with a computer to access a secured system – those people generally are not targeting WoW accounts. They could make more money targeting actual credit card numbers.

UGH… Did you even read the posts? I give up on greens I really do…

Please read this. Please before responding.

lol send them to the customer support forum. That’s like throwing them into a dark room full of pit vipers carrying Blizzard banners. That’s probably the worst place to ever ask a question.

He didn’t even read the posts before he gave the scripted answer. I never asked for a blue, green or a different verdict. Just warning other consumers.

Very few of them ever do it seems.
