You know most humans in Azeroth have standard Western names right? It makes perfect sense from an RP standpoint for a human character to be named Megan or Eric.
This is why I’m trying to come up with names that start with each letter of the alphabet. So far on the Alliance side, I have about 15 names.
I tried using the names “Jane Doe” and “Betty Bloggs”, but both were taken
I wish I could get Bob as a name on a server. If I could get Tim, you know I’d be creating a wizard so fast my keyboard would catch fire.
I like non-fantasy names because I like messing with the trope sometimes. It adds to my fun.
Plus Bob isn’t even modern, it goes back to the Middle Ages when rhyming nicknames were popular. Bill for William and not sure if it gets censored but the version of Rick that starts with a D and Ted for Edward, also originated then.
Me real life name is Magogg.
Me a peon that works for Amazon
It’s a real name. It isn’t my real name, but it’s been a fantasy for me since wod that I could have a character with this name and this title.
It came from the random name generator.
I have a Gnome Lock named Emilly. Mostly because I like the name. lol Plus it just seemed to fit her.
I’m not into the funny names for my alts. I enjoy seeing others, but just doesn’t work for me personally.
Though Miree was a random generator name. Worked… lol
It’s not a fantasy, I really am a Werefox irl.
Another BElf trying to tell people how to play game properly.
Move on, nothing to see.
Why not?
What seems “normal” to you may not be in another culture/language/universe. Maybe they pronounce it differently than it appears to be too. I can’t say I’ve seen a lot these types of named myself.
So I should race change to Kul Tiran?
You should be a blacksmith or engineer.
Because sometimes real names are a bit on the nose.
Personally I just prefer real names or something similar over ‘Holybeef’ or whatever. In the cases I do it it’s rarely something commonplace in the modern day. I also prefer such names to have some kind of relevance to the character; for example my Night Elf Warrior shares the name of a Greek Amazon.
Wasn’t that the name of one of the mutant kids in Prince of Thorns.
I used Matalin so that people didn’t have to wonder how to pronounce it.
Because i have more self respect than naming them with an actual name then just toss two words together to get.
specially with the weird names out there.
Magogg what are you doing here?!?! You got a interview in five minutes!
/shrug
I saw a “Steve” once. Big ol’ tauren. That was great
