I have realized that is what it really comes down to. It’s the same reason Cata and MoP remix will follow a similar trend. If you are treating Classic as re-releasing existing games, with some tweaks, there is not going to be enough new content to hold players attention long term. The shine and nostalgia drops at some point and your left with only the 20% of a game that is actual new content.

The only way a version of Classic could actually grow playerbase over time is to create a completely new game (or standalone expansion) based upon the classic engine
with a dedicated dev team pumping out new content to keep the game moving forward as the original new becomes old.

Quitting WoW is harder than cigs.

Canceled my sub and you can list the reason why. They have no stated time so its currently indefinite and if they decide to focus on Cata/Mop more (MoP is 95 days). I’m guessing they wont release until after the MoP 95 day time. The upgraded caster gear you may already have so no use in running along more as you probably already have near BiS minus 1 or 2 items that won’t matter when phase 4 is released. They already hinted that the gear will be a huge upgrade at 60.

Horrible game management to have an entire player base suffer due to the launch and maintenance of another game. They planned poorly, they underpaid and short staffed the project. And once again the players have to eat it. If Aggrend was actually able to speak truthfully regarding delays and development, things would feel much different. Instead we got brushed off and minimized.

They canceled WoD early and spent an entire year working on Legion.

Sub jumped up by 2 million the quarter SoD came out. What, you think those people came back to WoW to play hardcore? Lol.

Subs are irrelevant for tracking specific game modes or versions.

Logs do that.

Subs count for every game and version of wow.

What does that even mean?

Does all evidence have to be explicitly stated to you by an official source?

Does common sense and attentiveness mean nothing to anyone?

Are you a lawyer?

It means you can’t really use subs to determine sod players for a few reasons

  1. A sub counts for all games and versions, meaning it is an obtuse frame of reference point.

  2. Logs are focused on specific game modes and servers. Raider logs are direct information straight from the source, the player and server.

Subscriptions can’t be counted for 1 game mode, because 1 player may be playing retail, HC, SOD, and Cata, or only 3, or all except sod etx. Since there’s no way to tell, you need to use a direct reference point.

You went to school right? All a subscription tells us is another player has entered the Warcraft pool

If I resub my account yesterday, which game mode am I playing?

You’d require more direct information right? Hope that helps

Cata has a more active player base. Regardless if you like it or not.

Cata caters to not only the progressive classic players and the retail crowd looking for something more akin to their game than what sod is during s4 drought. They are doing what’s going to make them the most money. And that is cata

Really this is part of the problem of turning the once limitless PvP grind into a dead-end participation trophy.

Even the PvP people, who in the past were content to endlessly do BGs to push for rank, now just hit the cap for the phase and then feel like “now what?”.

Completely destroyed that whole system with 0 real benefit to anyone or anything. It was perfect at creating the desire to do more BGs to see what rank you got on reset. And now its just another dead-end to be reached in a week. I like SoD, but this is by far one of the most mindless and contrived changes.

it means your metric is wrong, and your logic is wrong too.

Because the game is old, lol.

Throwing retail abilties into an old game isn’t gonna suddenly make things fresh and the game is bright and sunny again for 2+ years, that’s wishful thinking lol.

For me, it’s either Retail, or move on to another game entirely.

Nostalgia is nice, but a lot of aspects really aged poorly.

Game also takes forever to get things done, tons of travel/walking, waiting on groups.

It’s 2024, not 2004 anymore.

So im not a gdkper but it obvious that 20-25% player base left.
The incursion gold influx/ speed leveling pandoras box created major issues to those that didnt get the 1k gold per too. They had the first day.
Dont think anyone really cared to see a sunken temple raid. (Sm would have been a better option with lore and revamped sm loot)(gnomer was not excit8ng a option for me either)( maybe a horde raid to break out prisoners in stockade) (alliance maybe rfc raid) .
Class im balance a key factor. Casters are essentually useless, just fill with melee.
Epic crafting quest chain too long in my opinion.
Many other factors that i wont list

I have tried to remain positive throughout all of this because I am looking forward most to p4. However

2/3 of the guilds I raid with are effectively “on break” until p4 and horde BG ques are just getting worse and worse. Yesterday I went through almost an entire 2 hour movie before I got an AB to pop.

Blizz if you dont at least give us a date for the p4 test realm launch soon (as in within the next week) or if we are looking at August for p4 then SoD is dead in the water. Its already hemorrhaging.
