People already falsely reporting me for language while I advertise my own services

This is a great post covering the “but there is a filter” thing. It is there because some people can’t follow rules they agreed to, not to give you free license to break the rules.

The filter is not there for you to be able to say whatever you wish. It is an added layer of protection to allow parents of minors to block such language from their children while playing. It is also available for others who simply don’t want to see it, which is entirely within their right.

The ignore option also doesn’t allow you to say whatever you wish. It is there to help folks mitigate their social interactions. If you want to use inappropriate language, subject matter, or otherwise be toxic, that is entirely up to you. You may do so in the privacy of your own home, or other places that may tolerate it, but you’ll want to refrain from typing it out.

Blizzard needs to go back to how reporting was originally done. Filling out a report form. If someone isn’t willing to fill out a form in order to file a report, the offense they are trying to report must not be worth a punishment.

You want them to go tickets that say “help”? The whole point of the right click report is that it captures the actual chat logs so a GM can review. It means they don’t have to hope the reporter included the name, server, chat channel, time stamp, and nature of the offense. The report captures it all.

Its insane that Blizzard has given the community a tool in which to indiscriminately punish anyone they want, for any reason they want.

Yes. Because the purpose of the appeal ticket is to appeal the original violation. It isn’t for discussion of the violation or discussion surrounding your suspicions about those who may have reported you. Outside of that, it appears you are asking for a reduction in penalty. That’s not something that we will generally grant. The penalties on the account were earned, they weren’t fabricated or otherwise unjustified. You’ve had many warnings in the past where we just silenced the account, which …

The player claimed persecution, but it really really was not and they were very much doing things against the code of conduct.

You can get reported all someone wants, if you don’t break the rules you won’t get punished with an actual silence or suspension. Even then if a GM makes a mistake you can appeal.

People immediately put this to the test, and were silenced within a few seconds of being mass reported, even though they did absolutely nothing wrong. Its amazing that Blizzard has continued to get away with such a blatant lie ever since.

SQUELCH is automatic and had been in game for a LONG time to deal with gold spammers and such. If an account gets a lot of unique reports in a short time it will get squelched pending GM investigation.

In that case - the “reported” streamer got squelched just like anyone with a lot of reports. BUT did not get Silenced. Instead he got Suspended for abusing the report system.

Don’t mix up a Squelch with a Silence. The Silence penalty is a black mark on your account and doubles each time it is applied.
