Peak California - Or the Dubious Morality of Clumsily Integrated Messages

Kyalin asked me to forward her response:

"Well, as for Sarm’s comment - it was discussed in the post. Anduin, the moral arbiter of the Alliance, is framed in opposition to Tyrande specifically in reference to the “Cycle of Hatred”. So, we have the white, European-coded man condescendingly lecturing the backward, foreign, bigoted woman who also happens to lead a people who were subjected to multiple attempts at genocide that it’s wrong to not want to take steps to prevent future attempts at it. We also have the matter we were discussing in this server, where in Wolfheart, we had xenophobic scouts who looked down on one of their colleagues who embraced human styles (including scouting), and was rewarded for that conformity to the human way by being the only successful scout among a cohort of other scouts who were each caught/killed by the Horde because the Horde had managed in that book to somehow learn Night Elven scouting tactics (but not human ones) to the extent that they were capable of doing that.

Regarding the “utopia” comment. I’m not sure if he intended to lay down the implication that he did. It’s almost as though he’s saying that it’s wrong to defend your country against an invader who again, on multiple occasions has demonstrated that they will not leave you alone, that they have no interest in sparing your civilians (outside of Saurfang), and that they do not take prisoners."
