Pay to Win...not what you think

Here’s one. WoW as a whole is P2W because if you don’t buy the expansion you’re capped at lvl 50 and trampled by anyone who did pay.

like I said above…abusing words like bigot and racist doesnt change what those things are. It only proves that the user hasnt seen REAL bigotry and racism.
Anyone calling WoW p2W has ZERO clue what REAL p2w looks like.

P2W has a very simple, core definition.

“Pay to Win” . PTW is used in gaming with the meaning “Pay to Win” to refer to games that allow players to purchase items or abilities (e.g., more powerful weapons, additional health points) that give them an advantage in the game, either over other players or NPCs (Non-Player Characters).

P2W is a very controversial aspect of gaming, especially in MP (Multiplayer) games. Many players strongly object to people being able to pay to trump their own hard-earned experience or superior skills.

P2W Games always have items available from some form of in-game store, and those items can only be purchased with real $$ or currency that can only be purchased with real $$ (such as gems or another form of special credit separate from the games farmable currency).

These are the facts, and facts are, by their very nature, indisputable. You may have an opinion on what P2W is, but there is no such thing as ‘alternate facts’ so, if your opinion on what is P2W isn’t using the same facts as the defined definition? Then your opinion is wrong.

The closest Blizzard has ever come to having a P2W game on their record has been Diablo 3 with the RMAH. But since the RMAH was removed, that game is no longer P2W.

Soooo…every game that comes out with a new expansion is P2W?..

+1
So I dont buy the next expansion. WoW must be p2w since I cant advance without buying it.
And boom…the entire gaming industry murdered in its sleep over the abuse and misuse of the words Pay to Win, lmao.

Lol, well I have called words on nobody but I guess you just can’t make real arguments.

My opinion is: Who is the governing authority on video game definitions.

If you become stronger that possible if you do not buy expansion, yes.

That’s using the “definitions” OP and others are throwing around so…like it or not, WoW is P2W. Just keep playing your money sink and don’t worry about it.

Thanks, kinda what I was trying to make them realize.

Seems like an abuse of the word ‘win’ there.
If you can do it in game by playing, it not p2w.
If you cant do it in game by playing and are forced to fork over $$$, not just to speed things up, but literally to ‘win’, then yes, its pay to win.
thousands of android games pull this crap.
My neighbor literally spends her bill money every month getting further and further behind because the android game she plays REQUIRES $$$ to get past the next level.
her deceased husbands gold he left her is gone now…so I imagine she either quits or moves into a homeless shelter soon.

I tried to talk her into getting into WoW so she could appease her addictions WITHOUT being FORCED to pay to win.

By your own definition yes. By mine, not.

Uhm you openly state how this game is now P2W… lol
Players are buying carries in arena to obtain the rating needed, in turn allows them to purchase the highest ilvl.
One can look at the pvp forums and see how everyone is stating this form of business is going on. R1glads at 1400 bracket, completely smashing in faces of the normal pvp crowd.
In essence, gear that isn’t normally acquired, is being acquired by purchasing services with the in game use of tokens.
I’ll wait for your justification, or like some do on the forums, remove their post due to the logical fallacies.

literally lmao guy…I pay $15 a month for my accounts, so try harder.
Im held back by ONE thing…my lack of desire to play the game.

Who is the defining authority on any definition?

If you’re going to ignore something that has a definition because there’s no ‘governing authority’ then there’s a whole ton of definitions in every single dictionary that could also be disputed, despite common sense being a thing.

What ‘governing authority’ decided on the definition of a dog? What if I want to claim that my cat is actually a dog. Sure there’s a definition that tells me what a dog is, but I don’t know who had the governing authority over that decision so, that ‘fact’ means nothing now.

Yeah, maybe don’t go down that rabbit hole. It leads to very stupid places.

so there goes the gear crafting market that we were all screaming about wanting, lmao.
I know this is a less known fact, but here goes…you all DO Know you can FARM gold in game, correct?

You clearly have problems figuring out what people are saying. He never intended to call you. he was just trying to make you realize that you can play this game or not, no matter if its p2W or not, by someone else definition.

Stop thinking these threads are personal insult on you.

For general words I usually reference Websters or Oxford.

Welp, if someone is smarter than whoever makes Websters and Oxford then they should make their own dictionary and overthrow them. They don’t want to? Well, then Websters and Oxford it is.

Yeah, you’re banging your head against a wall here.

Clearly if you can stroll in with a credit card, buy 20 million gold, and buy all high ilvl BoEs within an hour, there is some element of pay to win, because you just paid real money for fake gold, and bought powerful items with the gold (see “real money”).

Yea, comical how keyboard clickers in the virtual world, are being armchair lawyers now, with basis of claims as to "what is” and "what isn’t “, with no case to back up the assertions. lol

Then he needs to use the /sarcasm emoji to make it clearer, lol. I do. Thats what theyre there for.
