A good reason to pause a subscription is things like students that want to get rid of a temptation interfering with their studies.
To me it feels a little like, “Pause your game for a billing cycle, and hopefully forget you just paused it so we can resume billing you in a month.”
Back in vanilla and TBC, you could pause your subscription for a really long time. I once paused my sub for 6 months lol.
No, you could not pause it back then either. There were rare exceptions for things like Military with orders, but that was hand processed and approved by a GM. There was no account mgt option to pause a subscription. It would bill until your card expired or you cancelled the sub. There was no option to refund then either.
So I think the main reason to pause a sub is like someone said because of school, or maybe they won’t have access to their computer for a while or maybe they’re going on vacation or leaving the country or something along those lines. I also think its more beneficial for those who are on a month to month sub instead of 3 or 6.

Then why not let you pause it, and unpause it when you want?
Knew I forgot to do sum before uninstalling bnet.
i dont really quite WOW or any MMO. I just take breaks maybe thats their way of acknowledging that
It is always best to “cancel” instead of “pause.”
There are players who need the extra money in this economy if they know they will be away for a while (assuming more than one month).
I’m still waiting for the first “I pause” thread
I did pause xD…wanted to try it out
for someone like me pausing and canceling are pretty much one in the same.
This is untrue. I indeed paused my subscription back in vanilla, and was not charged for the duration of the pause. I requested the pause, was given it without question or special dispensation, and was able to play the last 10 days of my sub several months later. This WAS an option.
This WAS an option.
I was there… I don’t know what you remember but unless you were granted an exception by the GMs, that was not a service that they offered. I can go ask on the CS forum if you wish and get a Blue to say the same thing? Or correct me if I am wrong?
There is still no way to pause your current game time. Only the next billing cycle.
I imagine it was made with people like that in mind.
That, and the folks who are all
“Game is boring and unfun right now, Iʻll check back in 3 months when patch X.X drops”
Yep and that’s a good idea even
