Why have a timer then?
Just don’t do timed content.
The timer isn’t even the important mechanic, it’s the swirlies and frontals people eat to the face. You can time a 20 with all 3 dps pushing like 200k overall -and I’ve seen double that at the end of some of my runs. Below like an 18 the run has to implode like 3-4 times before the clock is an issue.
Stopping to get your human mental facilities back is directly opposite of what mythic+ is designed around. You should already have had that plan made in advance and be competent enough players to adjust on the fly if/when deviations to that plan come about.
Soon enough your kind will have timer-less mythic+ dungeons. You already do if you just learn and accept the timer isn’t tied to completion and you still get your rewards anyway.

Because that ruins the entire flow of the content. Also it can easily be abused.
Are you incapable of going to the restroom before starting a key or even just holding it for half an hour? I assume you are not a child.
I don’t even play M+ and even I think a pause timer is a bad idea. Too many ways it could be abused to complete higher keys than you would be able to with the timer always ticking.
Just…do the dungeons? 
Nothing bad really happens if you brick the key. Like, if you’re doing a +15 and fail the time and get a +14 then that’s probably beneficial.
Unfortunately, someone somewhere would get a power trip of freezing everyone until they say we can move again.

The OP’s heart is in a good place. However the concept doesn’t factor in the community of this game and their love of a good troll move.
But there is still a place for such a pause. If that pause happened automatically when a player leaves a mythic plus group midway through. Once paused allow the group 3 options, continue as is, disband or grab a wildcard player from LFG and take your chances.
I think that would be a good use of such an idea.

Your issues are your problems lol.
What exactly is going to occur within the next 20 minutes that you have to address immediately? That is a very rare occurrence. Or you’re awful at managing your time.
Beacuse it allows people more time to strategize. You’re not supposed to have much time to stop and decide what to do next. That’s part of the experience.
People who need that much coaching should be doing lower keys where there’s enough wiggleroom on the timer for it.
Max pause time one minute. Should be used for when someone needs to afk.

I was once in the middle of an M+ when some druggo walked into the house demanding the keys to the car. I had to type “brb being robbed”. A pause button woulda really helped!
